Laurence,

Congrats on exceeding your expectations! After 80 pages, 1,600 posts, and 159 VW Beetles (give or take a few). I suspect you know when you've got a good one. It's all about personal bests.

Also. Thank you for sharing your mistakes, and how you were able to correct and rise above them.

Mr GDSlot,

Please forgive the following answers to your questions. They were the first thing that came to mind, and are only meant in fun. :)

1) 158 other Beetles
2) 158 other Beetles
3) Beetle class?

Most amusing answer😄, thats why I get for trying to get serious on the Bugs🤷‍♂️

Of course I forgot Laurence has the "rise price" button on deck at The Mess when its all about Beetles😄... or black paint for the matter.

Cheers

Plastic fools assemble for release of a new VW. Pity they've got nothing better to do. Too early to celebrate so Captain Haddock stands a small chance of sobriety for a short while.

Will wait for transfers to dry before maiden laps around the Mess.

My grateful thanks for your interest. View attachment 282270 View attachment 282271 View attachment 282272 View attachment 282273
Nice job(s) Laurence.

I hope Captain H doesn't mistake either freshly finished bonnet for the bow of a ship awaiting launch and crack that bottle he's holding across either, otherwise you will have some serious bodywork repairs to perform even before you set a tyre on track.

Thanks again for your posts above, chaps. All greatly appreciated.

Daniel

These Beetles are extraordinarily quick around the Mess for several reasons, and are usually raced against other saloons with a similar spec. They go so well because they're very light in weight, have low gearing (helped by small-diameter wheels), and are fitted with superb tyres from PCS.

We also run handicap races. If, for example, a Beetle is up against an NSR 917, the Porsche has to complete three extra laps. Each heat is 15 laps (18 for the 917) and produces close and fraught battles, especially if Gandhi spills chips all over the Mess.

Handicapping is a good way of discovering all sorts of things about slot cars that I recommend, especially after imbibing a few large ones with Captain Haddock.

Hope this answers your points above.

Mmm handicap uh?

How about this:

Heat winner drinks two shots of whisky and everyone else drinks one, that until the race is completed. The method is repeated for all classes of the day. 😁

Cheers
