They are my favourite period of Scalextric F1 cars. I always prefer the Shadow over the others. Mine run mainly on Ortmann rear tyres, not fast but great fun.

When I watch footage of the races the real cars took part in, I dont think Scalextric did a bad job on the bodys of these cars. Just a shame they never painted the engine details.

Mike, I used the easily available motor adapters to fit both a Shadow and a March 6 wheeler with mabuchi motors, with Ortmann rear tyres. They were spare duplicate bodies.

I would like a long can motor that would fit straight into a spare McLaren M23 bodyshell but not sure which one would fit.

Thanks Mike, I think the McLaren will get a Mabuchi then. The front spoiler is also missing on my March. I agree the basic cars have more charm, hence why I have 6 (7 if include the mabuchi motored one) Shadows. They are just such good fun, sometimes outright speed isn't the most fun.

I found this box on my shelves while looking for a different car. Here is 4 of my Shadows and 2 March 6 wheelers. I am a big fan of the Shadows, I have a further 3.
