with that short distance - it does seem to me that the greatest concern is hardly 'maximum speed' but rather 'maximum acceleration' - cannot imagine that you would ever max out in top speed on that kind of distances you describe. Basically what is the point of a high top speed if you never reach it on the short straight of yours? I would have expected that change of gear would be of greater interest than anything else in this situation. Someone else on this forum might have a better informed comment on this than me though..
