Hi,heres what i think is a brochure used by salesmen for MRRC from around 1959-60.Photos in order=1-brochure cover,2-brochure open with contents,3-set sold at the time,4-wheels,cast chassis,motors,5-club tracks & Merit kits,6-injection molded bodies(1/32nd scale) from France,7-complete 1/32 scale car kit,rail or slot,8-bodies 1/27 & 1/32nd scale & complete cars,9-price list,10-make it yourself slot tracks,11- price list,wheels,tyres. Now ive also included the 1953-4 catalog showing 1/16th scale gas powered rail cars,programmes,& custom made track for clubs. This is i think rather rare lit.Its a look into the early history of our hobby.

interesting preface to the cataloque by John heath and george Abbecassis who were the folk responsible for HWM racing cars ,that did really well in the early 50s ,and launched the carreers of Stirling moss ,peter collins and lance Macklin

I wonder how rare those complete 1/32 or 1/27 MRRC cars are now?? Never noticed any on Ebay UK, then again I haven't known about them.

I have never run the MRRC gas car,no track .

The early MRRC cars are pretty rare,ive never seen a 1/27th scale car.The mint on a card cars are extremely rare. Im sure they would go for over 1500 lbs if one showed up. Thanks,Bernard

Hi Carlo,

There are some photos of the early MRRC rail and slot cars on here - try a search (launch it from the entire forum, not just this section).

I don't have the exact dates at hand, but MRRC offered an early rail racing track, maybe 58 or so, and the wide slide slot track, probably not long after... both have proven extremely hard to find in the flesh!

Bernard is having trouble posting these days; I think we fixed it, but haven't heard back from him yet, so don't know if it worked!

Here are 2 very rare and early MRRC catalogs. The 1st catalog shown here is from 1952-1953. It shows the diesel powered metal cars made for in door racing. You can see the complete track they built. The 2nd catalog shown here is from 1958-1960 ? It shows both the very rare1/27th and 1/28th scale rail and slot cars and still some diesel powered cars.

Here are some early MRRC cars we have here at the museum. The 1st photo shows a diesel model. The 2nd & 3rd show a MIP 1/32nd kit which can be made into either a rail or slot car. The next 2 photos shows 2 very rare 1/27th scale cars ,1 a rail & the other a slot. The next photo shows 5 rail and slot cars The next 2 photos show 3 early MRRC chassis with custom wooden bodies. The last photo shows a rare early MRRC controller.

Brilliant...mind you, they offered the parts to build a car for £8-that's about £150 today. Rail/slot racing was much cheaper and easier, but I'd love to have seen the IC cars in action!

Hi Bernard, good to see you back and thanks for refreshing the pictures!

Just looking at my literature for some dates.

An article in the January 1957 issue of Model Maker presents a prototype of MRRC's commercial rail track, with "ready-to-run" cars. The chassis is a tray over which a "standard Scalex body can be clipped." Tri-Ang motor of course. Special motor, wheels and tires are being developed... There's also an ad in that issue for the track, including options of complete running chassis, a transformer and button type controllers.

The wide slide slot tracks, also of wood, are mentioned in the December 1959 issue, again in a review of available equipment, plus a full page ad from MRRC.

The car kit in the blister, with alternative slot guide for Scalextric track is mentioned in November 1958.
