Stu, on a tight, twisty, slippery track the MSC stock motor is your problem; it has too much rpm & torque; drop down to an NC-5 or even NC-2 & you will greatly enjoy the car.
As far as the crown gears go: be sure to tighten them up . We've gone over the MSC cars fairly well & they offer lots of adjustments, some I haven't quite done anything w/ so far, but my crown slipped on my Subaru as well. I have 2 Monte Carlo chassis & the Mitsu & the Ford.
They have made the best Subaru body yet!
