"Thank You for creating such a useful, informative, creative and inspiring thread." says the man who posted a pointless and not remotely relevant youtube clip in the middle of a different thread.

In 1992 my Dad bought my Mum an RS Turbo, only one slight flaw with this gesture - My Mum couldn't drive!

Well, the insurance was astronomical so my idea to er, permanently borrow my Mum's new car was was quickly pooh-poohed! Although I did get to drive it a few times and was gutted when we sold it!

Anyway, I have never owned the Scalextric version, however, I have heard horror stories. The last time I drove a Scalextric Fiesta was when Hornby released the XR2, so I have forgotten what they are like and whether they deserve a duff reputation.

For instance, the little Fiesta is powered by a HO motor; does this really hamper performance? The most obvious flaw I can recall, it suffers the same fate as it's bigger sibling (Sierra Cosworth) where both were fitted with 'independent' front suspension to help drive around banked curves. I remember hating this technology at the time of release, since each car looked like it had suffered permanent front suspension failiure!

i have no ideas about horror stories. all i know is that when i took it apart i nearly suffered bladder failure! so many odd ideas in one car. bonded body/driver tray , plastic axles , diddy motor.....all it needs is doors that that fall off , a big "wah wah" rubber horn on the side and to fall apart when the clown jumps in! its either going on ebay or i'm going to make it my lifes work to turn it into a proper car....i'm thinking full on wide ass , rip yer head of rally cross rep.

petestrike, this is one of those threads that would have been so much clearer with pictures. I know what you're on about, but if people haven't seen a Scalextric Xr2i, they really would struggle to understand how much of an insult to mechanical engineering it is!

However, you can only imagine the old-fashioned look we gave as the rep on the Hornby stand at the British Toyfair proudly showed us one and told us that all Hornby cars were going to be made that way from now on! It even had a codename like "NAVDIC" - which I can only remember the last half as Drop In Components !

Despite all this, as a product-starved club (this must have been 93 or 94 - before Ninco or Fly came along and revolutionised the hobby), we had a one-make class for them and they weren't terrible to race. We just had to have rear axle assemblies on permanent order at the local model shop.

Plastic axles? Wow! I gave them such a wide berth that I missed that, it was sufficient to see the pathetic tiny engine. I don't recall them being at a super cheap price either. Thank goodness that NavDick didn't take off....

okey dokey , here you go. i do , however , accept no blame for loss of bladder function!

it really is nasty. i would take a dozen tr7's over this! it sounds like the challenge is on to beast it up though!!!

Ive always hated the independant front suspension, ive still got a red & black one in bits in my spares box,Trouble is they aint good for much else

I did mount the Q8 Fiesta on a pcs32 chassis, that was a massive improvment,Ive always loved the sierras though, easy fix for them was to drill a few small holes and cable tie a solid front axle in

ive a "cozza" with a solid , floating front axle conversion. soon to be replaced with a fixed brass tube mounted one. as far as "project fester" goes , BIG plans are in the pipeline. if things go the way i hope , i'll be able to take the paper bag of shame off my head!!!
