I think the Scaley guardrail is perfect. I use them in the track here when the old ones fall apart. To fit them all I do is drill a hole to take the "post'. Simple and quick. It can be joined together and looks pretty effective.
I find the scalextric silver rails very realistic and pleasing too. The longest ones are probably for a full straight or there-abouts (the curve and lead in ones are about the same length, if not identical). Each post extends longer than the track surface, but (when using the clips or boarders) not quite to the floor. Hot-glue might be the best way to fix them to your table or track, you could pin through the bottom of the hollow post, but getting the hammer in there to tap the pins in would be tricky!
