[Ice Hockey Face-off]

HI GUYS!

I was wondering wether anybody has any layouts for a scalextric classic 4 lane layout. Any kind of pieces of track can be used or scx track can also be used in this layout, see im getting back into the slot car hobby and im looking for the perfect layout SO I THERE ANYONE WHO CAN HELP! The area i want this track to cover is about 16ft by 12ft or below.

Perfect Layout...

Whatever you choose, try it out on the carpet or on the table for a few weeks before you stick it down and add scenery. This way you can make alterations to get it working to your complete satisfaction. Try running it too in reverse and see how cars go around the other way.

For four lane I guess you'll be racing yeah?

That means equal lane lenghts so I'd have a flyover in there.

Also, a long straight, a few tight corners and some sweeping curves should work well.

Best bet is to design one on your PC. A basic figure 8 will give you equal lane length and you can add variations.

I use SlotMan because I have a mix of Scalex Classis and SCX track. Oh, and it's free!

The way I plan my tracks is as follows:

As Steve says, a Figure 8 weill give equal lane lengths. Any variations befor or after the flyovers will cancel each other out on return.

Here, all the similar coloured curves cancel each other out in lane length.

When I was looking for plans I went through every post in the Track and Scenery forum here at Slot Forum and at Slot Car Illustrated. You can find the Slot Car Illustrated forum at this link: http://p075.ezboard.com/fpockitfrm13.

Within the posts there are often links to pages where guys have pictures and track plans of their layouts.

You can also download a layout book from Scalextric at: http://www.scalextric-usa.com/downloads.asp. As I recall, the book has 2 and 4 lane layouts for both Sport and Classic/SCX. You can use the Sport layout plans, I don't think the length of straights or radii of curves has changed between Sport and Classic, just the surface, depth of slot, and type of crossover and chicane pieces.

To build my two-lane layout, I started with a Scaley layout plan and fiddled with it using track layout software and building small tracks that incorporated various parts of my designs to be sure they were race-worthy. I also just got back in the hobby, after 30 years! I really recommend you check out the layout design software that is available. There's a link to a great Mac program called RailModeller on my site, I think Tracker2000 is the program of choice on the PC. These programs are easy to learn and use and very addicting - it's fun just to make new designs.

I don't really know what sort of layout your after, but I've shown one idea below.

With a large layout like the one you propose you have to be sure you can reach all areas of the track, especially if you intend to try out any landscaping works.

This "U" shaped layout will allow access to the inner areas for marshalling , car recovery etc.

The Layout was designed on Tracker 2000 which I strongly recommend you buy, it not only is very, very useful but also a lot of fun.

The track used was as follows :-

instead of the outside being like a 3 sided squre try to make it more rounded like neuro,s, But this is still a good layout

I wish that my track was less complicated with less over-passes. Remember that every time you car goes under a bridge, you loose sight of it and if there is a bend just after then you are more likely to crash ("out of sight, out of mind"). This is more evident with the kids, but I would prefer a more open track where all drivers could see all of the track all of the time.
