Syd's set a benchmark of what can be achieved with a bit of tinkering, My advice would be to see how your JGTC goes without the magnet first then take it from there.

£7.29 for the gears & pinion is not bad at all.

As you say this will fit onto the fatter Ninco axle (3/32 size). Which saves money.

People can use their NC-5 if they wish or upgrade to a 21,000rpm NSR King or Slot.it Boxer motor.

Most people will have some slot.it tyres kicking around too if they want to upgrade those as well.

Sounds like a good way to gently open up the class for no great cost.

and ditch the magnet which is not helping the track.

It's a win, win situation.

Just to bring everyone back down to earth, Remember we do need to vote on this.
I'm pretty sure I know how the vote would go but in the interests of fairness maybe we should look for a solution on how to run mag/non mag together.

Syd do have a question about the axels the standard ninco axel is 2.5mm I believe the race axels are 3/32 like slot it, so I take it those gears by nsr are for 2.5mm as they would be no different to slot it. Have I got my thinking wrong here?

The early/std ninco axles are 2.5mm the later ones inc prorace are 3/32.
The two nsr gear sets I have used so far I've had to clean out with a drill to get a slide on fit. Ive had to do the same with prorace wheels. But thats the nature of fettling any car.
One important thing I found is that the axle bushes need to be a good fit on the axle or you'll get handling & gear mesh issues.

The nsr kit interest me in terms of cost should make it prefered method of gearing as ninco kits are so expensive.

Or if you are supplying cars for your kids! As a club we've always maintained that everyone should be able to compete at the same level, After all it's a competition on the track not who has the deepest pockets.
Having said that Ninco spares are very expensive so investigating other options isn't a bad thing.

Hopefully I'll have three Lexus (minus magnet) running for Friday one with NC5, One Boxer and the other NSR King but all retaining the Ninco running gear to see how they compare with Syds.

Good idea Nick. Sometimes the difference in running gear is insignificant, remember in JGTC and Meganes some people swearing by metal gears but the plastic ones were just as fast...

I think I've mentioned this before but we do have the option of running at higher voltages if people feel the need for more punch from an NC5.

I see what your saying on gears but ninco spares are generally more expensive than nsr and you get better quality, and yes your right nick the club porsches are at 15v and they did ok, do like the smoothness of nsr though

So wind it up to 18V then everyone has the ooomph they need from a standard motor. Less stress on the motors without the magnetic drag anyway. Sounds good to me

While last friday is still fresh in peeps minds, does anyone have any more thoughts on an 'open jgtc' as Nick used my Lexus to secure 3rd place in 'open gt'

Syds car is very driveable and was good to run it in race conditions. Although I got 135 laps I'm sure there's more in it so expect totals nearer 140 which isn't far short of a mag car.
I tried my Lexus with a triple x motor but this is too fast in a straight line and overall lap times were slower so I'd go along with the suggestion of a 21,500 rpm limit. Unfortunately didn't get to try an NC5 non mag version but I don't think it would be far short (The Ford GT's are regularly in the low 130s and I'm sure a JGTC type car would go better).
If we were to do it I'd also be in favour of opening it up to any Ninco anglewinder (Maybe exclude Ford GT & Mosler).
