New Club in North Manchester UK?

Hello All,

Just got back from my trip to Pendle Slot Racing and their amazing and friendly setup.

I'm inspired to start the ball rolling of trying to establish a club a little closer to home and am testing the water for founding members.

I have a son who is quite keen so I'd like to focus on a junior or 'dads and lads' class, but not exclusively. I have a venue in mind in Prestwich just near Heaton Park. A preliminary club discount agreement with Pendle and few ideas about track format.

I had initially thought about a Scalextric digital routed track but after chats with racers at Pendle and a couple of tests on our home circuit with 6 racers I think the system has potential but is no where near robust and mature enough to handle a regular club night and would very quickly become frustrating.

I'm a graphic/web designer by trade and have access to cnc routers for sign writing so drawing up a circuit and getting the basic route made is possible. As is a website and flyers to attract racers.

Anyway, enough from me, I'm keen for it to be a 'club' and owned by the 'club' so if you are local and would like to get involved please get in touch.

Kind Regards

Warren

PS If I have posted in the wrong section could the mods please move? thanks.

Thanks Flange, Michael and the deluge of PM's... Its seems the interest is there. I'm still looking for someone with potential venues that we could install a permanent track and researching a track that could be analog AND digital, tho not at the same time

I'm thinking four lane, still looking at options. Anybody using the Oxigen system in a club environment?

I'm unconvinced about the Ninco track Flange! Mostly due to the cost for a new club and the smoooothness of routed wooden tracks.

Great news about another possible club Warren - though the venue rather than the type of track seems to be the biggest issue for clubs.

But yes, I'd vote for routed too - with braid (set flush with the track) if possible. This will give you the smoothest and most trouble-free track surface possible. For 1/32 cars, a matt finish (like Pendles have) is best - gloss is just too grippy for rubber tyres. And using non-magnetic braid will avoid issues about which motors have too much mag advantage...

You could always travel round the M60 a bit and visit Scale Models Slot Racing in Marple.

1st track idea for MSCR - a 2 lane digital or analog. I'm trying to create a modular element to the mdf 1200mm x 1200mm x 18mm so to enable me to develop the electrical side in my workshop and extend the track when needs be in a larger venue.

I'm still not sold on the 2 lane version. I think I need to develop a four lane version. Theres talk over here about extending the 2 lane analog capability of the APB. http://www.slotforum.com/forums/index.php?...30&start=30

I was keen to start the drawing process and look out for any 'gotchas' in the file transfer to the router. So subtle details, like the lane change positions and lengths will change and develop. Any comments more than welcome.

We will take a trip over to Scale Models Slot Racing and we're quite looking forward to it
