Well spotted. Could be interesting...Russkies seem to be trying very hard nowadays as far as investing in sport is concerned. I suppose there is no shortage of second hand cars, engines and parts right now eh
Minardi will be there, even if it's courtesy of the old '98-spec Cosworths that Stoddy used in 2001 (badged as European V10s). Jordan's a worry though...
It's also on the beeb - with some random comments about how the russians picked F1. Only after they decided not to enter the Olympics and the World cup!
QUOTE He added: "Our research into coverage of different sports showed that only three events met our criteria for international exploitation: The Olympic Games, World Cup Soccer and Formula One.
"As the two others are quadrennial Formula One was the natural fit."
Need to be careful how I say this, but I suppose it is good for "race fans" that money obtained in less than stictly straightforward ways is used to put cars on an F1 grid.
Nothing new in it - check out all those Eighties teams with sponsors you've never heard of before or since.
The Midland Group, which employ 40,000 people around the globe, is headquartered in Guernsey and has extensive business interests in Russia and other former CIS republics. The team, Midland F1, will be based in the UK and use a Dallara designed chassis. They have yet to confirm which engine will they will use.
Kind regards
Russell
