Hi, Im new here and would like to get back into slot car racing but can find no tracks near me. I began my racing at Nordic in Southall in the 60's. (anyone rember it with Ron, Gill and Max the dog) . Had a break for about 10 years and then raced at The Chequered Flag in Northolt, then Reading and finally Pinewood before I movedI have a 1/43rd layout but it's not the same. I loved building chassis's and painting bodies. Any one got any sugestion ( polite one only please)

Hi Tony, welcome to the forum.

A few clubs you could try are "Bowlextric" at Clanfield near Portsmouth, "Home Farm" at Liphook. Or a bit further away is AWSCC at Alresford.

I am not sure if these clubs would be your cup of tea as they run mainly standard cars but you just want somewhere local to race they are an option.

Tone - we'd love to see you over in Goring-by-Sea on the first Wednesday of every month.

HO cars might be small and our set-up not the 'traditional' slot car club, but we do tick most of the boxes for a fun and competitive slot car experience. Some might say that we've pushed that experience into the 21st century.

Our WHO Modified class is a challenging one for builders and the cars run under lexan bodies. The next Mod race is Wednesday 4 July. Why not do the 30 minute journey and have a go

Hi,bigtone

Its a bit of a desert for 1/32.........It just needs someone with a bit of drive and energy to start one up....

I love a good fiddle with scalextric 1/32 digital in the winter..buts its only up for about 6 weeks ....

Woodcotes and robinracers W.H.O. 1/64 racing club is great........Nice and relaxed and lots of Dads and lads.......And behind the scenes there are lots of tuning and fettling opportunities to be had along with 'paint your own lexans'

Would recommend a try!

Cheers MIKEFI

Hi All, Thanx for all the messages, info and welcomes. For those that suggested HO, I have tried it and I'm afraid it's just too small. I'm finding 1/43 too small and I don't like racing with magnets. There isn't enough scope in HO for scratchbuilding and motor tuning for me. Netley is well over an hour away from me so too far. I looks like I am going to have to bite the bullit and build my own mdf track for 1/32nd and 1/24th

There are HO cars without traction magnets, the engine tuning options are endless and as for scratch building, try finding plastic bodies in 1:64, you'll have to scratch build them. It really is worth trying HO as it is good fun, the magnet cars require a different skill to drive well and the non-magnet cars are very tricky to drive well, I race different scales, cars without magnets, cars with magnets and also compete in Slot Rally, all of them are different and all of them are fun.

Definitely not of much help now, but as little as 10/12 years ago, Bognor was home to one of the finest commercial raceways in the country!

In the town centre opposite the station, 210 foot six lane raceway upstairs and 4 lane Goodwood replica downstairs.

All gone now, due to redevelopment of the town centre.

Sigh!

I raced against Derek Bell and Charles March there.

Bigtone there would always be a warm welcome at Pinewood for you, and cars to race.

I remember the Daytona and my taking it to the Staes to blow the minds of the racer in Detriot.

Also the brass rail 1/24th F1, which was way before its time as they now race such things under the title of D3 class.

We have a new track since your times at Pinewood take a look at www.pinewoodraceway.com
