NEW SLOT CAR CLUB IN NORTH LONDON

Kilburn Slot Car Club is a large (approx 150 ft) permanantly set up 6 lane Ninco track, at the rear of Kilburn Auto Centre, a working MOT station and garage situated at 3-6, Exeter Parade, Exeter Rd, NW2 3UH.
The track is completed and all 6 lanes are up and running, we are finally coming to the completion of what has been a labour of love by John (Fishy) Taylor, Chris (Squiddy) Gavriel, Paul (Ernie) Hearn and me, Ian (Nobby) Newstead, also I have to mention that over the last few weeks we have had some great help and ideas from Fishys mate Stuart (no nickname as yet).... I would like to thank them all for the enormous effort that has been put in to get the track looking so good and sexy, I have been involved in quite a few projects like this and I personally think that this has the potential to be the best one yet.... I will post some pics on here as soon as I get a chance..
We are now looking for enthusiastic new members to come along and help with the finishing touches, ie putting up posters, flags, a bit of painting, scenery and grandstands etc.... Most importantly someone that can help set up the computer side of things, we have all the components needed but unfortunately not the brains to go with them......Also any ideas on getting new members and a bit of free advertising would be amazing, maybe we could create a post for a club secretary.....
At the moment we don't have any rules or regs but we are thinking of starting by using supplied "club" cars, simply so that prospective members can "dip their toes in the waters" of Slot car racing without having to commit to buy loads of cars..... Obviously we will race our own cars at some point but we are hoping that this approach may help get a few new people into our hobby, maybe even bring a few old ones back too....
I can be contacted on 07799 666656, if I don't answer please send me a text and I will call you back as soon as I get a chance.... Ian

Hi Nobby,

Glad to see that you have the track up and running.

Have you decided on a day to run as yet?

It is just a bit too far for me to come regular but would most likely come along now and then, especially if Burnt Oak does move out Watford way.

Being probably one of the newest club members in the area i found it a bit daunting to start with as most clubs have too many classes. It can take a long time to build up enough cars. A good idea to start with club cars.

Getting the youngsters involved is a must it seems. My youngest comes along now and then in the school holidays to Burnt Oak and loves it. The problem is that it is such a late night. Maybe with your own track in your own premises you could look at an earleir start for youngsters and then a later start for the adults, even a different night?

I hope it goes well for you as i have always enjoyed you guys company which is as important as the racing.

Good luck again

Hi Dave and Flange? I probably know who you are but I'm not too up on the Slotforum nicks.... Still I'm glad to have a positive response, hopefully it means that we will be getting some of you lads down here.... The good news is that we almost certainly will not be racing on Thursdays, as I said it will be either Mondays or Tuesdays... I personally prefer Mondays but if the general consensus is Tuesdays..... Well tough luck....
, Just kidding, I really don't mind..

I hope to see you and many more down here , I am sure that most people will like the track, I know that there are always a few exceptions (no names needed) but it really is a nice circuit...... So come on down!!!!!!

Nice to here from you, hope to see you soon

Hi Nobby,

I came along to your last track at Finchley a few times, once in the snow if i remember well.
I race at Burnt Oak normally.
Small fella with the spiky hair cut.
Ask Paul he knows who i am and squidy may remember.

This may jog your memory, i had won the heat at your round of the champions league when there was that trouble with chinese where he latter went a bit strange.

Good luck

Hi Dave.... It wasn't you that I didn't know, coz you were smart enough to tell me your name
... It was "Flange" that I have absolutely no idea who he is in real life...

Let's hope that we have (thanks for the reminder) nothing like "The Chinese Incident" again, I hear that apparently he is keen to join again... He has been told that we have moved..... To Ulan Bataar.... I doubt very much that we will see him again

Hopefully we will see all the other slotters in their droves flooding down here..... Look forward to seeing you all again

I was wondering if any one might like to comment on the idea of running purely club cars for a while at our new club? We have been discussing this topic and we thought that it may be a good idea, especially for new memebers, to turn up and race prepared club cars...

But we wondered "how would seasoned racers feel about this?" I know that I have had many a happy (if sometimes frustrating) hour, trueing up tyres, gluing in motors, trimming bits of chassis and bodywork etc and I wondered what the general feeling within the establshed club members would be? Please let me know how you would feel about turning up and racing club cars?

It would be nice to hear some comments about this..... I hope that we get some ideas from you old boys out there.....

Oooops..... Sorry, it seems that I might have put my previous message in the wrong place...

I'm just beginning to get the hang of this.... It's been a while, please don't laugh at me...

Well, I reckon that most of you have sussed out that I am a bit rubbish at this technology stuff, give me time (it's my age you see) I will get there eventually...

So if you are still reading this drivel, please get back to me and let me know what you all think of the idea on, club cars.... Not what you think of me, I can guess that bit....

I have merged the topic with this one Nobby, and removed one of the duplicates, so your discussions can carry on in one place.

If, with your comment about old boys, you are looking for input from outside your own club, then I will say that all four clubs I race at have alternate race meetings where all the cars are club supplied and stay on the lane so that everybody gets a go with each one. It seems very popular and brings another dimension, even for the old hands, where any set of cars are rarely exactly the same in performance and it gives the newcomer a chance to race the quick car against an experienced racer in a harder car. As well as a challenge for the old hand. Obviously the reverse is also true, but the occasional taste of glory will enthuse the newcomer more than being ground into the dust every time by the club "champion builder".

I'm liking this Steve Francis cos he's a gooner. Maybe a "We hate Spurs" night would be a good idea. I'll get Eckle and Mannequin Man, Nob could bring Minty and young Jamie from Essex could join in the fun... Perhaps Fishy might consider jumping ship since his manc loving ways are making hig ginger hair turn grey! All Spuds fans are welcome- you could come along and spend the night desparately trying to get into the top four - and failing as usual ! What do you think Nob, fancy a night with a bunch of Holloway boys ?

Hi Lee, yes I do know Julian, I haven't seen him in a long time, although Jamie Pleasance was talking about him the other day... All good obviously... It would be nice to see the two of you over here, just let me know and I'll roll out the red carpet...

Thanks for "merging" my posts Jim, I have got it figured out now.....

Cheers for your comments on club car racing too, we have a couple sets of cars that may just do the trick, they are Ninco Lexus's (Lexae?) and SCX Nascars... The Nascars may not be the fastest or the easiest cars to drive but they certainly sort the men out from the boys....

We are thinking of getting another set of cars, any suggestions would be appreciated... I think the criteria should be, robust, easy to look after, not too fast yet not too slow, must be current and good looking....... Rather like me........

Have a look through the class list at Farnham Club for ideas as they run on Ninco. Not sure if that is the most up to date one though.
