Hi all,

I'm new to slot cars at the age of 36. I've tried using my 8 yr old son as an excuse for my new interest, but I don't think anybody's falling for it! The wife's fed up with the track I've created on the floor, and the postman's getting annoyed with all the packages that he's had to deliver recently. Any advice.....lol.

On a serious note, does anybody know of any clubs in the Ipswich area? I did a search on the web and found a club, but it looked like their website hadn't been updated for a while so maybe doesn't exsist anymore.

According to the Slot Club Map Ipswich has SlotStox and BSCRA clubs.

For "popular" slot cars, Colchester looks nearest.

Hi, Ipswich is a bit of a dead zone when it comes to Slot Car Clubs, I sometimes go to the Colchester Club on a Friday night, let me know if you're interested in going and we can share a car, I've tried to get enough interest to start a club in Ipswich but there seems to be little interest, I host a 1:64 scale (micro scalextric size) national race at Kesgrave Scout Hall once a year, next years race is in February and your welcome to come, all equipment is available to borrow.
The Ipswich BRSCA club is actually in Wickham Market, it's not my thing, but they meet on a Thursday evening if you're interested in racing metal chassis cars, which brings me on to what sort of cars are you interested in racing and where abouts in Ipswich are you, I'm not far from Foxhall Stadium.

Hi Stop,

I concour with Julian. It depends how far you want to go with the hobby.

If you want a super large track/venue, then GT raceway in Southend is your place but you will pay for it in subs (£10 per night I think?) and petrol money.

Brass chassis ultra fast, ultra competitive slot cars is at Wickham Market.

Scalextric/ Slot.it/ SCX/ Ninco cars are raced at Colchester subs £3 per night and less intense racing, more tea breaks than race heats.

Welcome to the hobby, I'm sure you will find all the help and advice you need from the collective knowledge and experience of everyone on here

with regards to the home life, If your Wife complains about the hobby, the track, the cars or the cost simply remind her that you could have much worse hobbies such as visiting gentleman clubs, getting drunk every night etc (that how my wife justifies my hobby to herself ;-))

All, Many thanks for all the suggestions. Some of places sound really good but are unfortunately a bit too far. The Benfleet one looks great and is actually close to where I'm from originally (Corringham). I also support Southend United so know the area well, but I'd like something closer to Ipswich.

In terms of scale, I've just started messing around with 1:32 and to be honest enjoy the collecting and fiddling around more than the actual racing at the moment. I've made a couple of pit garages out of my sons lego and like the idea of mixing slot cars with Lego scenery.

Julian - I'm in Stoke Park. The Colchester club sounds Like it's worth a try so maybe we can go together one week as you suggest.

Wraith - Thanks for the support. I'll remind my wife of that, although I quite like the sound of those other things as well ;-)

I probably won't be going to Colchester until the 30th of September, this is Trans Am night for American cars, don't worry if you haven't got a car, I've got one you can borrow and I'm sure Fred has a controller, send me a PM nearer the date if you're interested, I'd pick you up (if you want me to) from yours about 7:15ish and we usually finish racing at around 11:00.
Hopefully your house is easy to find, as I don't know Stoke Park at all and usually end up driving round in circles trying to find my way out.

Looks like the Colchester club is about 20 miles away, which is not bad.

Friday is a good race night because of the next day not being a work day for many. Sadly, it is for me, which is why I don't attend anymore, but when I was I loved it. It is a good track, easy to learn but hard to master, a nice surface with wide lane spacing, and the vibe is first rate.

Have fun.

Stopwhispering,
anytime you are in the area, pop in and take a look. You might find it worth the trip. We have a fair few cars for sale at reasonable prices as well.

Cheer, Graeme.

Julian - Okay thanks, I'll be in touch nearer the time.

Montoya - Thanks for the advice, sounds good.

Graeme - Thanks, I might just do that. I shall be in South Woodham for a few days late October so if not sooner that may be the chance.

Thanks again to everybody for the help.
