Well, it's like this... I still need a lot of trackside figures to make my track come to life! The pitlane is allready full of mechanics (SRA + Scalextric), I have a few spectators (a little set from those new Carrera figures + MRRC figures), and there are two boxes of Carrera grandstand figures on their way to Petit Spa (I imagine 35 little people sitting on a 1/32 tourbus on the highway), so the grandstand will be crowded, I have SRA marshalls and I have some other older MRRC figures that I use to stand with their retro bikes at foodstands.

But now... I still need other people... like vendors and standing spectators. I found two boxes of older MRRC figures at Ebay for 8 euro's.

I thought, I'll bid on these, nice price... well... I was wrong! They were sold yesterday for 38 euro's a box! Ok that they're rare... but 38 euro's... for 10 unpainted plastic figures? I think it's crazy...

Well... here is my question: does anybody know something about new figures to be released? Like from Scalextric? Or Carrera? They bring out modern mechanics and specators... but would they bring out other stuff too in the near future? I know that there are some Carrera-specialists with inside info on the board, maybe they know?

If you hear something... let me know!

Thanks in advance!

Hi Gunther,

I can't really helpyou out but nearly 4 Euros for one figure is just a little more than crazy - hey, they are unpainted

I don't know if I'm right, but i understand that you don't want to put these "modern" figures like the carrera box-crew to petit spa??

Revell actually brought some "classic-looking" figures.
Perhaps it is worth a look at eBay (Germany) for the older Carrera figures. Also the Carrera spectators are (for my taste) very universal to use. I mean that they don't look too modern, so that you couldn't mix them with older Carrera figures or the Revell-ones.

What about the Preisers (I know very they're well priced)? Or Froemter (http://www.froemter-shop.de/ ->sorry, only german, but pics are multi-lingual)

At a recent collector's meeting some guy was sellin scalextric figures for 7€ each. Even for France, wasn't it a liitle bit expensive ?
The new Revell ones look very good, though.

The mrrc figures are the same as the monogram figures that you show pictured TDi. MRRC rented the licence to make these figures, but revell mongram wanted the licence back, which is why the mrrc figures were discontinued. (I bought my mrrc sets about 8 months ago at about 15euros each I think)

The reason that revell/monogram did not allow mrrc to renew the licence is that they wished to release the figures themselves, which as shown by switchblade, they have started to do.

MRRC released 5 sets amounting to 52 different figures (the first set of 12 looks more like 50s era figures and not quite as well posed as the following 40 60s era figures). So far revell monogram has re-released 12 figures in a prepainted form. Hopefully they will release more soon.

Well, I think I was not very clear in my sentences... I have modern pitcrews from SRA, I have a modern pitcrew from Scalextric... I have modern figures from Carrera...

What I need is modern figures like vendors and other modern people... apart from the Carrera's, SRA's and Scalextric I have or I ordered...

When I saw these old MRRC's on Ebay, I would have bought them for a reasonable price, and give them modern colors to look like more modern people... because they are no alternatives for vendors at the moment...

I know Revell (Monogram) is bringing out painted versions of the older MRRC's... But I don't need those... I need modern figures, for my modern layout...

About Preisers... They look very good... and it's nice to have a few preisers on a layout, but to fill a whole race-village with preisers figures at 10euro each? Bit too expensive for me!

So my question again... does anybody know if Carrera or Scalex or SRA or Revell is busy making modern trackside figures... apart from these on the market now...

Hope it's clear now?

Cheers

there are only 3 vendors in the mrrc/monogram set anyway - 2 guys carrying hot-dog type boxes, and 1 guy selling programmes..

Gunther,
I think you may have discovered a vacuum in the market for anyone with sculpting/casting abilities.
I too have been frustrated by the availability of suitable looking figures for my layout. Other than the 3 vendors that Astro mentions in the MRRC/Monogram set I know of no others.
SCX makes some nice spectators that I just picked up for - ouch - $24.95 + tax. That comes to $4.50 per figure! I'd like a few hundred figures on my circuit, but not at that price.
The Preiser figures look good too, but they're even more expensive if you want the painted versions. I'll probably pick up a few unpainted and paint them myself.
It seems there just isn't enough variety overall.
I don't understand why they are as expensive as they are. Even if the market for them is small they must be so simple and inexpensive to manufacture. Surely any manufacturer that invested in new tooling could reap substantial rewards by selling the figures by VOLUME, no?

There is a Coca-Cola Christmas ornament of a woman behind a counter handing a Coca-Cola bottle to a little girl standing on two Coca-Cola cases that looks to be exactly 1/32 scale. My sister has one (she and her husband collect everything Coca-Cola - ughh). I'm trying to talk her out of it as the figures would be perfect for my layout's snack shack.
I tried searching eBay but was not able to locate it. I'm not sure who manufactured it or what year it was issued. I'll query my sister today. Not sure if she'll know or not.
There are also some interesting Coca-Cola vending machine ornaments that look like they might be close in scale. I won two different varieties on eBay just today and should be receiving them soon.

I know you already have some SRA figures, however.......I do recall a statement from Johnny S that SRA were working on some new releases. This was while back so perhaps he can throw some light on any potential new releases?

Hi Gunther,

I know of a company that sells the old carrera figures from the sixties. Apparently they used to manufacture them for Carrera, but then Carrera went bankrupt or something and they got stuck with an overstock of readymade figures.

If you're looking for quantities and if you're not too picky on the quality (I think they're plain ugly, but who am I...), have a look at this link :
figures

Go to "Universal 1/32" and check "Zuschauer A", they offer 200 pieces for
145 Euros, and they even have packs of 500 !

Kind regards,

Yves

(By the way, our order still has not arrived from Spain)

yves,

Thanks... but no thanks...

Is that a girl with flowers? Or is that a Roman warrior with his green weapon? Ready to knock his contestors down?

And that yellow shorty... If he puts on his racing goggles... his ears are covered with glass too!

And the guy who has won something, looks very good like our worldfamous Eddy Wally! Especially his hair!

Chérie!

Gunther

And... euh... Yves... In spain they know how to throw a party... don't they? They don't stop after a week! But there won't be a problem to send along the second box of figures then...

Gunther,
I have taken a couple of pictures of the Coca-Cola thing but am having trouble connecting to Star Photo and Photo Bucket is not taking new members until they complete the redesign of their websites infrastructure. As it turns out it is not actually a Christmas ornament at all. My sister bought it in the jewelry section of a - ughh - Walmart store. I suppose the reason for that is that it has a working clock built into the cash register on the counter. The copyright date on the bottom of the piece is 2003. I imagine they are still widely available.

I managed to talk my sister out of the piece (it wasn't difficult at all). However, when I got it home I realized that the figures are just slightly larger than 1/32 scale (Maybe closer to 1/28). The woman measures 5 1/2 cm in height and the little girl 3 1/4 cm. Neither of these is a problem for my layout as the woman will be inside my snack shack and I can trim her feet down some. Her head and hands are a little on the large side, so maybe she's just got a lot of hair and man hands (like one of Jerry Seinfeld's ex-girlfriends. The little girl will just appear a little older than the good folks at Coca-Cola intended.

I'll make pictures available as soon as I can get them uploaded to a web host site.

Thanks for posting pics of the Zuschauer A figures. I was considering those after reading Yves post, especially considering the price, but the pictures were poor on the retailer's website so I balked. Now I'm glad I did.

Best Regards,
Steve

Thanks for pointing that out Astro. Elite Plus really is a great value! I just signed up.

Gunther, I've got to get going now, but I'll post the pix when I get back home later today.
