I haven't had a slot car set since my younger days. I used to have HO scale. I am interested in getting into 1/32 scale, however I would be limited for awhile to at least a layout that will fit a 4 x 8 size. I looked at the Carrera Peak Performance set and noticed it would fit that layout size. I also noticed other Carrera sets that come with more accessories like wireless hand controllers but the layout is too large. My question is should I get the one that fits my layout size or go for the ones that have the better accessories?

With a limited space available, Carrera isn't ideal. It's a quality system, but its track width and corner radii means it needs more space than most competing systems. Have a look at Policar sets instead. Its track geometry is more suited to an 8 x 4 space. It too is a quality system and can be expanded easily when you have more space.

To answer your question directly, I'd start with a set that fits your layout size. Accessories can be added later.

homeracingworld.us did a very good video review of the basic Policar "BRZ Drift" starter set. There are six videos in the review, the first two and the conclusion shown below.

First off, welcome.

Are you thinking analogue or digital?

...and you don't have to use all the track in a kit, if you get a larger set than you initially need you'll have the extra track when you decide to upsize.

My track is Scalextric ARC PRO and perfectly happy with my choice. Track is slightly narrower then Carrera, track easily taken apart if or when required.
Missive range of cars plus Carrera, Policar cars run on Scalextric analog track plus others without alteration. Compared to Carrera the narrower track
allows for smaller radiuses such as R1 curves and expanding out to R2, R3 and wide R4 curves. I would however suggest The R1 curves should
only be used as a here and there for space or slower speed points for added interest, or have to.

Digital wise the Scalextric ARC PRO system runs on either analog or digital with the flick of a little switch. The digital unit comes with 2 wireless controllers
plus another 4 purchased separately, allowing you to run up to 6 cars at the same time. Additional digital track pieces such as cross overs and pit lanes
can be added when and if you require. Also you are able to set up various race types that allow You to set up say as one being a Grand Prix with
the ability of setting in ie: compulsory pit stops, changes for wet weather conditions, tyre blow outs, driver changes engine problems etc: set independently as wished.
