I'm sticking with balsa to complete mine even though I know it's wrong. Those buildings look great. Boy racer burnout heaven eh?

I'd exercise extreme caution with grass etc. The stuff I use is railway scenics grass on a roll, and even after having 18 months for the loose fibers to work free, and having been sprayed with copious amounts of hair spray, I'm still concerned that should a car deslot there's a huge amount of minute sub millimeter long debris waiting to clog the motor and gears

I've gone with trackside functional debris fencing partially to overcome this, and keep the cars well away from it in the corners.

I love those pics, YB! I have a long history of ****ing up scatter, railway ballast etc. You mention it, I've ballsed it up (too much PVA, too little PVA, lifting of said scatter on brush etc etc)

I think the scenic matting is just about getting to the 'safe' stage on my layout, and it's good for creating 'muddy' patches too by scraping back to the paper.

We'll see after this weekend!
