The big pit at the 'front' is perfect for one of those "deep" tunnels as per the first Star wars film as were those for the Forbidden Planet.. In those the model pits were made with mirrors at the bottom to make the thing look far deeper.. Was far more fun before computers hey?

I reckon for styling and profiling you should go for a 1950's 'big budget' look.. and for cars you need to scratch some of the 1950's concept cars . I saw a grouse site recently with that sort of thing. I'll google it up.

I'm pretty sure they do a 32nd scale Battlestar Galactica fighter thingy.. this is my fave model shop for Sci Fi stuff Hobby Link Japan

Pop "1950s concept cars" into google - there's some great images like this

Since you have a city it would be fun to go for 'simple' 2 or 3 car digital so you can play 'space' cops & robbers around the buildings.

Silo1 (u turn), and Silo 2 (Cut down into city). The "Pit you could have it so the lane changer passively send you around the rim - and you actively have to choose when to run away through the city.

I was looking at Blade runner (as you can tell) that seems to segue perfectly into your world. It all grubby monotones by day - but then the lighting at night is really stark & discordant - almost imtimidating. I reckon you could have a ball with that sort of thing! Leds and glass fibres.. a couple of those dodgy old "space lamps" pulled to bits will give you all sorts of enjoyable spotty lights in your towers.

From this angle the building looks almost benign. However it was known as Darth Vader's Castle or the Death Star!

The brown bits were black when it was built & from the freeway it was a giant intimidating black mirrored hell..

Black Mirrors for City Hall - trust me..

ROFL - That's the one I was talking about Embs - just couldn't find a photo taken from the S.E. Freeway.

I just thought of something you need to read "Armageddon - the musical" by Robert Rankin. All based around society having been destroyed & the three religions running things from towers like you've just described.

Lots of Elvis - Barry the Talking Time Sprout & extraordinary silliness.. but the picture you're drawing in my mind comes from that book..

Sorry Sig.

Rankin, Pratchett & the bloke that wrote the Eyre Affair.. Jasper Fforde.

Rankin is (however) god..

I am going to be polite & assume you remember that Caligula {from memory} made one of his favourite horses a member of the Senate..

Mate - thought of you this morning. I saw a 50 (?) cm model of an Eagle (Space 1999). It was VERY VERY cool but I wasn't paying the money. Should have taken a photo. Had my camera (stupid dog I am).

I thought the Eagle was pretty good value Sig - was a "working" one - no passenger compartment. 765 or 675 Aussie Dollars in a display case.. the only thing is with a kitchen with no oven, a verandah that needs redoing (1 story up) & claims that I need a new track I'd get a beating if I bought it home..

The original Mad Max was Magnificent!

Laughing at your claim to be making something "Interesting" rather than a track Sig.. that one might work on the Missus..

I'm enjoying the way that as the build goes on the place is getting more and more backstory.. I hope you write the "History" of the place up properly and put it next to the display for visitors to enjoy too!

Loving it

1950's cars in a post apocolyptic world makes sense - all those fancy Computery chips no longer work.. Fried by the X-ray pulse..

He he - you'll be able to do a SF literature first. "The Underground: The book of the hit Slot Car Track" - beats "The book of the film"!

I'm sure you need a book to go with it.. we'll clean up in the SF awards.. then you can build your track in 1:1 scale for the movie set as Artistic director! "The Underground: the film of the best selling book of the hit Slot Car Track"..

The kids are going to be very excited - particularly if you mention that most of it is 'Found Objects'.. you might have to run away from the parents though! (My 3yo keeps bringing home old cartons all glued together to make 'Spaceships' at the moment.. The local tip looks tidier than my house..

Here you go Sig - you might like this guy.
