Hello,

Following a bit of a prompt from Scott on the NNRC thread I've started another thread. Its just to cover my scratch building projects although anybody else is welcome to join in of course.

I WILL CONTINUE TO POST ON THE nnrc THREAD AS WELL.

At the moment I have a Ford F3L P68 on the go and have just received through the post an Airfix E Type Jaguar and VW Beetle. The Jag is going to be turned in the Bob Tullius Group 44 version. I know Top Slot produce this but I fancy the challenge. The Beetle is going to be turned into a Uniroyal Fun Cup Endurance racer which are based on a modified Beetle bodyshell but sitting on a single seater racing chassis. Look them up on www.uniroyalfuncup.co.uk is you want to know more.

I intend to use the Scalextric Sport Tuning range which is why I wanted to see how zxr400er's Ferrari 156 went with the little F1 motor in it. The Airfix Beetle is smaller than I imagined it would be so I think the F1 motor will be quite suitable.

Hello

My GPR series car, a Scalextric Ferrari P4, modified, completed and also tested at Bolwextric. Seems to go alright as well.

Unfortunately the steering unit in the Porsche seems to be particular to that car. I have several spare F1 front units but the 2 mounting screws are much closer together than the Porsche. Very slightly wider track but same wheels, tyres and guide.
Hello Mr.M

Your Ford Escort bodyshell is finished but to be honest I have a couple of issue with the interior.

The transparency (windows) is pretty naff to say the least. It seems to be a general "jelly mould" shape rather than anything that should actually go in a Ford Escort. It only fits where it touches so to speak. Its stuck in but I'm not happy with it and I'm tempted to take it out and replace it with flat clear plastic.

I've also had to cut the tops of the crew helmets (they're now brainless!) or else the interior pivoted on them. In fact it quite a heavy moulding and again only fits where it touches.

Apart from those issues its a great looking bodyshell

Hello

My GPR Series Ferrari P4 has arrived in the USA and has been tested by the "Technical Staff" on an informal "learning the car" approach, who wrote the following remarks

QUOTE 5.387 sec., 64 laps, P #49, Ferrari 330 P4, Nick49. A nearly stock Scalextric 330P4, with original motor and sidewinder gears. Chassis has been cut free of the body, free to rock on backed-off screws on front and rear body posts. Navy blue paint on the wheels hides their smallness, and complements the decal graphics. Rear tires look like Ortmann repro Monogram Goodyears. A smooth car, but given to spins and deslots, as if it needs about 15 more grams of forward weight to balance the sidewinder rig. Total weight is 70 grams, the lightest car by far. It took all 64 laps to bring out the best in this car.

Other prototypes tested at the same time included:

Ferrari 612P - Fox II motor - 5.133 sec.
Ferrari P4 - Ninco NC5 motor - 5.191 secs.
Chevron - Slot.It 25K motor - 5.363 secs.

Slightly surprised at the amount of weight they consider is necessary to balance the car but I would undoubtably further develop the car if racing it at Bolwextric
.

Hello Mr.M

Well just to show you that I am actually getting on with the Porsche 936 here are some early shots of the bodyshell albeit without the driver's head.

It was going to be my GPR Series racer but at the time I couldn't decide on a chassis. I'm now going to use a modified Ninco Renault Clio chassis with either a Ninco NC5 or a Scaleauto motor. I'm trying to remember why I choose the orange and black striping but I think its got something to do with reading "Motorsport" and liking some of the Can Am liveries. Not sure what to do with the hubs.

Hello

One of the cars I was really keen to get when the 2006 announcements were made was the Scalextric 2005 Indy 500 winning car of Dan Wheldon. Now I know that the IRL series cars from Scalextric don't really set the slot racing world on fire but, I have been a fan of the Indy 500 ever since Jim Clark started racing there. He, of course, famously won it in 1965, the same year he won the Formula One World Championship to be followed the following year by Graham Hill. We've had to wait 39 years before another Englishman won one of the World's most famous races hence my desire to get the slot car.

I have to say that I was a tad disappointed when I eventually bought one because there was no reference at all to the fact that it was the 2005 Indy 500 winning car. Perhaps Scalextric don't have the licence rights to use that trademark? It was also a very empty looking car decal wise in my opinion as it was completely lacking in the Jim Beam logos. Do youngsters even know what that is?

I did look at pattosplace for his Jim Beam decals but whilst browsing through various slot racing sites (like you do) I came across "Indycals.com" who do a whole range of decals for past Indy 500 winners including Dan Wheldons car. This would enable me to transform my Scalextric car into this

Michael Portaro was very efficient and quickly I had a set to hand. Very soon the empty white spaces and other places were filled and the car was looking more like the real thing.

I've even managed to mimic Dan's crash helmet to a fair degree. The car looks really good around both my test track and the bolwextric club circuit. The gripless rear tyres have been changed for the appropriate "Ortmanns" but otherwise its a very smooth operator, just like the real thing.

Hello,

Qualifying or the first race (I'm not quite sure which) at the East New York circuit in the GPR series has happened and my "Camel" Scalextric Ferrari P4 ended up 11th out of 18 in the prototype class. Not bad for a car that is almost entirely stock Scalextric apart from a Ninco sprung guide up front and Ortmann tyres on the back.

this shows grid order as such

My car complete with some extra home made decals put on just before I shipped it.

Hi lads,
My re-liveried Porsche 956 (looking a bit battered now) has undergone its final modification, just in time for the last round of the current No Name series. It will also be used soon on Mondays when the Manor Farm "open" class switches from saloons.

It looks like a normal Slot-it Porsche 956:

But underneath the bodyshell:

A Hobby Slot Diablo chassis, with Slot-It motor pod supported by magnetic suspension front and rear, Slot-It zero-grip front tyres and Ortmann rears. Oh, and the bodyshell has a GOM lightweight interior.

What's the betting it is slower than the standard car?

Peter, i have a feeling that if Tony repaints the track (as promised for 18 months now!) Ortmann tyres will lose their advantage and I'll be back on top with the 'unwanted' black Audi

I'm hoping Santa brings me a 312 kit so i have something else for the Monday open though

Hello

The qualifying rounds in the next GPR Series race has taken place on the Terrys Targa track and my Scalextric "Camel" Ferrari P4 seems to have done quite well.

QUOTE 11.262 sec. #49 ferrari 330 P4 Coupe, Nick49. Zero deslots. Wow. This car was fun to drive. Very forgiving car if you overdrive it in the curves. Hard to make mistakes with this one.

It is seemingly in 6th place out of 19 contenders at the moment.

Nick

Hello

Another relivery. This time of the "Racer" magazine Ford GT40 into the Whitmore/Gardiner Ford GT40 of 1966.

This shot shows allegiance to the club I race at Bolwextric and no, its not meant to be tilting

Hello

Something worth waiting for as far as I'm concerned. I've been after a Fly "Mampe" Ford Capri for a little while and here it is, the lighted version, purchased from Millstream Models in Ringwood. I was after this particular livery because I saw it race at the old Nurburgring back in the late 70's and I had the Tamiya version.

Whats more it was only just over £22 because Millstream are having a half price sale! good eh

Hello

I can't believe the spending spree I've had since the Swindon Slotmeet.

SCX Corvette C6R

Scalextric Ford Taurus NASCAR
Vanquish Shadow
Scalextric Porsche 911 GT3R
Slot.It Jaguar XJR9 LM 88 winner
Fly Ford Capri "Mampe"
Ninco Champ Car
Scalextric McLaren/Ferrari duo

Not in the realms of Mr.M of course
but not bad for me. My wife knows about one of them at least
.

Hello Peter

Well I haven't paid for it yet, just another 8 days to go as I type. Its actually quite a nice car and I can see a Hornby LMP class being nominated.

Nick

By the way apart from Millstream Models having their half price sale, Waterlooville Models are offering 20% off.
Hello

I thought blue wheels would look good.

I think it finishes the Navision colour scheme off nicely.

Hello

The new McLaren is great but it needed some "Marlboro" logos to look really right.

More pictures on my blog.
