No, I selected the options for SCP 1 /2 for my SCP 1 and my controller got bricked. Apparently it happens to both SCP1 and 2 at random. The same thing happened to a car chip.I am not sure if I follow the discussion here correctly, but did you select the wrong type of hardware on the bootloader before connecting it to the device?
For instance, selecting an SCP2 and connect the bootloader to a SCP3?

@greg, yes my SCP1 is older equipment. But they have the option there to update it and it broke by no fault of my own. So if they replace it I think that is great and probably the right thing to do as a company. I am not bashing slot.it. I like their products and I just spent money on new controllers chips and policar track and cars. Mind you I have a my "apex" bespoke track so I don't need plastic track, but hey, why not?
I appreciate that you want to lend me your controller. I think I am okay and I will wait for the one I just ordered in the meantime. I have NIB SPC-2 that I am reluctant to upgrade now.
