Hi,
I just purchased a Carrera Panoz LMP-07 (I got it real cheap and it actually looks better than I remembered
). The red one with #1 driven by Jan Magnussen and Klaus Graf. The box says its from a "race of a thousand years"

I´ve searched the net for info on this particular car, but to my knowledge it never raced as #1 and I have never heard of this race

Can any of you enlighten me
If you got pics, please post them.

I believe the 'Race of a Thousand Years' was held on the eve of the new millenium... (See clip from a press release...)

"The Race of a Thousand Years will be held on the famed Adelaide street circuit, the former home of the Australian Formula One event. The six-hour sports car endurance race will end two hours prior to a spectacular New Year's celebration in the South Australian port city."

The Panoz 07 made its racing debut there but after a fraught practise and qualifying failed to finish the race...

The performance of this car was unspectacular, aside from a 3rd position in the 2001 ALMS season opener at Texas, it never really came close to winning a race. Reliability was a MAJOR issue...

Also, for those interested take a look at:

Mulsannecorner.com

It has some interesting articles on various Sportscars.

We all have had the car when we bought the Carrera set - incl. the Panoz and the Bentley - cheap at Bilka last year.
Panoz LMP-7 and the Bentley drove against each other in Le Mans 2001 but with other numbers on the Panoz. Should have been no. 11 or 12.

I actually attended that "Race of a Thousand Years"

It was one of the very few chances for Australians to see the LMP cars.

the "crocodile" Audi was an amazing piece of sign writing.

One of our V8 drivers was in the race, in the Panoz in question I think, with one of the Brabham brothers.

this is a pic of the LMP07 negotiating Adelaides curbs

cheers

Now, thats the sort of info I was looking for. And a picture

On the side of the Carrera-car, it says that Magnussen/Graf drove #1. Were there perhaps two Panozes running this race? With Brabs in the other, or.....? Or did Carrera screw up?

In the Carrera 2002 catalog, it is written that the red Panoz raced in Le Mans 2001.

hi Danny,

I found this website
Adelaide entry list

On another website i found this "Three Panoz Prototypes started the race. Two were 2000 model LMP-1s, and one was a 2001 model LMP07."

David Brabham,Greg Murphy and Jason Bright drove the #12 LMP-1 and I think they managed a third place. Greg and Jason are two of our V8 supercar drivers ( as in the current scalextric V8 cars )

The other LMP-1 was the #2 car, driven by Katoh and O'Connell and they ended up 4th I think

Cheers
