PC to C7042 Cable

We are working on a project for a trade show that starts April 23rd and we want to setup the SSD track at our booth and when people race the car the data will stream into the CRM software that we build and then that will integrate with a billing platform that will print a "invoice" for people to see how the billing platform integrate with our CRM software. In order to do that we need the cable to get the data from the track to the PC. We purchased a cable from RichG and the company that makes the billing software purchased one from RikoRocket but we're in the US, and both of them are shipping it from the UK. Both Rich and Riko have been very nice to deal with and have tried to expedite the shipping, but I'm very concerned that the cable won't arrive in time.

Is there anyone in the USA that has this cable that would be willing to lend/lease/sell a cable to us that we can use during the conference? I can ship it back right after the conference. It would be great if I could get the cable very soon so that I have time to develop the integration before the conference. We actually need two because we have two tracks that will be setup. I'm new to the forum, but if you want to email me offline, my email is [email protected]

If the cable is already on the way, then you'll probably get it before anyone else can send you one, unless they're in your area. Speaking of which, where are you?
Everyone I talk to in the states that ordered a cable, got it in a week.
Sounds interesting!

Don't know quite what you will be invoicing but linking to a CRM system sounds like a cunning marketing opportunity. I'd like to know more.
MrFlippant, I'm in Austin, Texas. We ordered the cables late last week, but because of the Easter holiday, I don't think they actually shipped unit Tuesday of this week, and they said it sometimes takes up to two weeks because it can get stuck in customs. So I was thinking that if someone in the states had one, we could have it overnighted via FedEx or UPS. If it doesn't arrive by next Friday then I won't have it before my flight to San Francisco which is on April 21st. I'd like to do the software development this weekend, but I think I can start the code even without the cable.
So the great RichG v Riko cable race is on.
Will be interesting to see which gets there first.

Although it's not the way I do things, this is a hobby to me. I am told that specking up and writing code and not fiddeling around all the time testing is the right way to do things.

Perhaps someone could supply a dump from a PCLapcounter Access Database to be getting on with?

ss67, I think this will be a cool thing, much more fun than a regular software demo. Basically what we're going to do is when people come to our booth we'll register them into the race on the CRM. Then they'll get to play a game, and while they are racing we'll be streaming the data in realtime onto a display as well as adding usage data into the CRM associated with their record. The concept is to sort of simulate the way Car2Go invoices for renting their cars. So we would be charging them (all fake money obviously) per lap. Then we'll show them that the usage data in the CRM flows into the billing software and we'll print an invoice for them to keep. The invoice will show their lap time for each lap and the charges for it. We'll most likely give out prizes to the top contestants and invite the top X people to a tournament on the final day of the convention and award a prize to the winner of that tournament.

We still need to think out exactly how it will work, but that's basically what we're thinking right now. I think I'll probably limit the speed of the track except during the final tournament, because I don't want the cars flying off the track all day. We'll probably need to limit it to two cars at a time as well.

Because I don't have a ton of time to develop the code before the convention, I'm planning on buying PC Lap Counter since it already understands the protocol and can output the data to an Access database and it will be much easier for me to just query the Access database to get the usage data.

Is "a few years ago" an exaggeration, or do you have a spare C7030 cable, rather than the C7042 cable he needs? Alas, they are different.
Ummm...????? Opps.....Yep I have the wrong one....It's a 7030
I have the very first one....Sorry.....
Just looked at my E-mail file for my slot stuff...

Sorry I couldn't help..
We just received a cable from RichG! Big shout out to Rich for helping to expedite the shipping. I'll be sure to post in the forum after the event for how everything went.
Quickest yet. Good job!

Good luck with your booth, that sounds cool.

I'm in the Bay Area (Oakland) if you need any help or spare SSD parts or cars, let me know.

Hi, I'm new to the C7042... It was delivered this morning.. I opened up the box and tried to find out how to connect it to my PC..seems I need a cable!!

After a bit of googling I see that Riko sells cables. So I tried to by one, but was unable - out of stock??

Does anyone know where I can get a cable?

thanks

Paul
I'm also after a cable, have you tried the SSDC website? You could try sending a PM to RikoRocket?
Welcome Valbonne !

You can also contact RichG for a cable. He is on this forum, send him a PM, or look for his e-mail adress on the rcs64 website.

Have you also seen you will need a PSU too ? Did you buy a set or just the powerbase ?
Just for interests sake and for those who live in North America, Professormotor.com in the States apparently stock the cable!
That is interesting. Does anyone know who makes the cable that PM sells?
It is a cable to connect to PC Lapcounter [Professor Motor PMTR6853 Scalextric 6 Lane Digital Interface Cable for use with PC Lapcounter Software] but it does look like one from either RikoRocket or RichG.

Comments?
Cheers!

It's the same pic of the cable that's also for sale on one of the principal French slot sites and definitely looks like a RichG one (I recognise his blue workboard): link

However, at €43 (about £34) plus €5 postage, it's probably cheaper to buy direct from RichG - in France at least. and you can choose the cable length when ordering direct.
With first class international Air Mail to Canada, the Professor Motor one is about the same price or more than from RichG directly.
Anyway, it is good to support one of our forum members who has done so much for our hobby.

Cheers!
