Ive just received the first version of PEARL

PEARL allows every driver to configure their own UNIQUE race line. 24 different drivers can have 24 different race lines!

Designed primarily for routed tracks but will work also on plastic tracks.

How it works:
Put car into "Learn Mode' by reconfiguring car. Now simply do one lap of the track in "Learn Mode". Now reconfigure car to "Race Mode" Thats it. Your car will now automatically change lanes at each lane changer. No other system can do this. You only need to do this once. In Learn Mode all 24 drivers can teach their car PEARLO simultaneously!

Want to escape from your raceline? Simply press LC button

You can even program your pit bay. Pick up the car and place in pit lane AFTER the pit lane LC. Now drive to your pitbay. Thats it. Your car will now pass into your pitbay only every time you pass down pit lane

Obviously if you use pit lane LC your car will change into the pit lane each lap. So always drive "straight" through on the pit lane LC.
Access pits by using LC button.

Ok off to test this baby. I will release once de-bugged.

Is PEARL a software program or something else?

From your earlier message it seemed you were going to write the PEARL code, or did you obtain it from somewhere?

I would like to hear more about PEARL and whether is will work outside of Scorpius. Any leads?

Hi Sealevel.

Yes John wrote the program today, took a couple of hours I believe. Its a Scorpius product.

Its simply 2 car decoder programs included in the Scorpius folder. One is for teaching the car the race line, the other for using the raceline.

PEARL will only ever work on Scorpius. No other system will be able to do this ever. This is because of the unique Scorpius architecture. The invention came to me in a dream one night. True story.

No other system has a lane changer ID system.

Scorpius Lane Brains broadcast an ID from 0-31, so the system knows exactly what car is. And the car knows exactly where it is.

Hows it work?
To explain a bit more, the car crosses the LC LED beacon in the track, lets say it was ID 25. Im 10 milliseconds apporox the cars microprocessor does this:
a)Recognise LB ID.
b)Go to register and look up if LC (LB) ID 25. Lets say its "change lanes"
c)The car broadcasts a message to tell LB 17 to change lanes.

All LBs listen, but only LC ID 25 will carry out the change or dont change command.

Power is sent to the solenoid and the flipper moves. This takes another 10 milliseconds to charge up solenoids and move them.

How is the car set in learner mode and race mode?

Go to contyrtoller menu and select PEARL. Now scroll to "learn". Reconfigure car as you would configure kits ID say.
Take car around track. If you make an error, relax, just go around again.
Now go to controller, select PEARL, select "Race". Go.
You only need to do this once. (Unless you ever change your race line.)

We could have written a chart to fill in and send to car, but this is "eyes on" which requires less thinking

PEARL update...............

Ok the first pass seems perfect. Ill test for a few days before releasing.

How to set it up?

There is a new controller upgrade and a new car decoder upgrade.
Reflash both components.
Go to menu on controller, scroll to PEARL page.
Use LC button to select either learn, off or on. (PEARL is optional for each driver). Press Menu button to escape.
Select learn.
Drive around track on your race line.
Now go to PEARL page on controller menu and select "On"
Thats it.
To escape race line, eg to overtake, simply press LC.

So car does not have to be reconfigured as previously mentioned.

To set up 8 LCs took me only a minute or two.

By the way its very 'nice'.

You cannot use PEARL and anti-collision together....yet.

When you do every LC will have to have AC employed.

As AC still has a glitch you will have to choose betweem AC and PEARL for now.

I wonder if this can be used in a TT scenario (time trial / rally). Where you program you PRL, tune your car accordingly, and run.
Then the next person, does the same. Either same line or similar...

PEARL will not be to any advantage on plastic lane changers, only best line tracks.

sure it can, why not? not to mention that having the track change lanes on its own will add a level of complexity to the driving if you are doing a time trial.
unless you are tying to tell me pearl will just not work on plastic... tell me now please =)

I always try to build plastic tracks where the LC is required to maintain the quickest line around the track. In it's simpliest form, here's a figure 8 track with a LC on each straight to allow you to always change to the inside of the corner.

That is correct Hooch, I share the same thought. I think is a situation which this is put in practice PEARL will work also on plastic.

It will be beneficial with Carrera for sure as their long LC suits the concept perfectly. For other types lap times may actually increase depending on the layout, mag or non mag, type of cars, motor sizes and personal preference. You can set up a fixed preferred race line using Swap Solenoid function also. The advantage here is you can use anti collision still and escape best line using lane change button on controller, although it takes a few races to train the brain.

Swapping the solenoid wont work with Ninco LCs would it?
