I love the cars from this period, the Ferrari, Maserati, Jaguar, Pegaso,
Cunningham Ect were wonderfully exciting cars.

Thank you Dennis could not have written it with out your help.

Great article Jeff!

It goes to show what study, skill and collaboration can achieve - keep it up guys we REALLY appreciate it!

I now have some history to add to my knowledge of the Pegaso when I come to build it

Its always a little daunting to order a car sight unseen, especially an expensive one like a Slot Classic. However, Jeff's review convinced me to take a chance and I ordered a Slot Classic Morgan from Slot Classic's website (only because there is no local supplier in Australia).
The car, #386 of 400, arrived this morning and its absolutely stunning as a model. But even better, it drives just like I imagine the real Morgan did around the Le Mans circuit. The motor, gearing and chassis are a beautiful match for a 1950's/early 60's sports car. Its destined for many, many more laps of my track.

So I just wanted to say thank you Jeff, for taking the time and effort to review a manufacturer that's not mainstream.

This Christmas I have spent a lot of time slot racing with my children and I must say some the most fun slot cars to drive have been two of my Slot Classic cars. The Mercedes is great fun, seeing how far I can get the back of it to slide coming out of the hairpin on the track.
They are not fast but they are fast enough to be a lot of fun with no magnets and narrow tyres.

Ingeniere Wilfredo Ricart was a poof. He talked loud and did little. He failed at Ferrari and failed at Pegaso. Once the owners figured out that the guy was a fraud, they canned him and went back to their proper business, that is building the coolest buses and trucks of the period.

The Pegaso cars are interesting because they are different and somewhat bizarre. But their performance was disappointing for the specification. The engine was strongly copied on the Lancia V8 originally designed by Vittorio Jano. But it never performed like the Lancia.

Today, lots of so-called automotive historians are trying to give Ricart a lot more credit than he deserved, in this constant "revision of history" happening everywhere, and now including automotive matters. In another five minutes, we will hear that Albert Gore Jr. did, in fact, invent not only the Internet but also the hydrogen-powered automobile.
Older fellows are less duped by this but what will happen when no one is left to raise their hand and scream "BS!!!"?

I am sorry PDL but I can't agree with you, anyone who builds the worlds fastest car can't have failed.
This is not a case of rewritting history more a case of stating it how it was without prejudice.
How many poeple fail? just about everybody fails at some point and if I had designed Pegaso cars and that was only thing I achieved I would not have considered myself a failure.

I was going to let the he was a "poof" remark go but I can't as Ricart sexuality has nothing to do with his career being a failure or otherwise.

I don't read it that way.

The origin of 'poof' is in the French word 'pouffe' - a pad to bulk up hair or the material of a dress. It became adapted as a description of a person or thing of little real substance, something or someone who promises much but actually delivers very little.

In either context PLD is wrong. As Ricard could hardly be called a "person of little real substance". As Pegaso's were one of Spain true Supercars.

RR, I just wanted to add that I like the "classic" feel of these cars too.

Here is my Slot Classic Morgan - beautifully detailed




...and this year Santa was kind enough to bring me two classic cars: an Aston Martin and Lister-Jaguar both made by MMK.




Again, both models are nicely detailed and "sweet" to drive.

P.S. both these MMK models come with rear view mirrors - not fitted at the time I took these photographs.
