Hi all of you Falcon raceway racers,

Thought I would start this thread so you can voice your opinions of the car classes and race formats or anything else for that matter that you would like considered for next year at the club.

So over to you guys

Hello Michael

I posted a few ideas on a different thread a few weeks back. I suppose the main change I'd like to see is racing alternate weeks instead of just the 2nd and 4th Thursday. This would be a good way of increasing the number of race meets over the year without making things difficult for those who can't do this every week.

As for the race classes, I think variety is important. The LMP/GT class is by far my favourite of the classes we run, but I also enjoy running the NASCARs on the Oval as this offers something completely different. I think if you're going to add/change one of the classes we need something that's going to maintain that same level of variety. Is it maybe running cars from a manufacturer other than Scalextric or SCX? You've previously suggested the Racer Sideways Daytona cars as a possible class - I like that idea, and wouldn't be opposed to adding one of these to my collection. Would everyone else be prepared to splash out on one of these?

What are the other alternatives? Slot.it Group C cars? That could be fun. Carerra or SCX DTMs? F1?

As I mentioned to you before, my slot car tastes are pretty broad (to be honest, the only type of slot car which wasn't included in my collection before I started racing a Falcon was NASCAR, and that's changed now I've got my SCX Impala), so I'm open to racing most types of car!

The only other thing I'd suggest is that we run each class as a championship so we have 3 or 4 different championships running over the course of the year. What does everyone think about that?

Cheers
Steve

Do you guys fancy a weekend in Wales at some point in 2013 for an inter-club challenge?

The Pantyffynnon Slot Car Club is a digital club running more of a street circuit than you guys race.

We are about 250 miles apart but nothing a minibus can't handle!

One race meet in Carmarthenshire and one race meet in Essex. What do you think?

Classes could be an issue if we want to run our own cars but I am sure we could reach an agreement. The fall back is that you have some club cars and so do we - a Transit grand prix anyone?!?

Hi mr moddifier
Hopefully something we can arrange in the future.
It can be difficult trying to get everyone together at the same time though.
We currently have 8 regular members.
Hi also keith
Anything we can help you with just let us know.
If you look at our falcon raceway club section there is plenty of info about this club.
The main aim of this club is close equal racing which is easier to achieve with digital racing.
I actualy started building the track as an anulogue slot stox track.
I converted it to digital after speaking with michael.

Hi all
So I have put next years racing to every 2 weeks as a few people have mentioned this.
I agree with the championship to.
I have 4 trophies this year for the club class cars.
I think if we just have a 1st place trophy we can have a championship for all classes.
I have also left a tba for an additional class of car this year so we can either vote in one class or run a different class each time.
I have also spoken to michael about the racer sideways daytona prototypes which I would also be in favour of.
It would be good to have one car with precision parts etc.
Also something I am planning on introducing soon is slot it oxygen.
This runs with our existing set up.
This would give us the chance on events to run 26 cars or 20 on oxygen and as many pace cars as the power can handle.
This would require us all having our own controllers though.

Slot.it Oxygen sounds good - something I'm keen to learn more about too for when I decide what to have on my own track when I eventually start to build it!

Imagine 20 cars running on the GT track!
Happy to get my own controller for this, but would need some guidance on what to buy as I don't know anything about these really.

Michael - having driven your Racer Sideways Daytona car before, it really shifts. You did mention what you'd done to the car by way of modifications, but I can't remember what exactly what you said. Is the motor what came with the car or did you change this for something else? Are they DPR or do you need to get the drill and soldering iron out? What tyres did you have on it?

Lee - when you say 'cars with precision parts', I'm assuming you mean Slot.it or NSR? Again, more than happy to put my vote to something like this.

Cheers

I will wait for the others to add their thoughts before I put mine.

Re the Sidways Prototype, they are basically a slot.it car Steve, all I have done is remover the slot.it motor and change it for a Standard scalextric one
and you see how fast it is, the gear ratio is changed and the car has a little tuning to get the best handling slot.it silicones on the rears and that's basically it, also it has a F1 scalextric chip in it, my slot.it group c car is all slot.it including the chip and it is slower

Re oxygen the slot.it controller is the only one that works and you then need an oxygen cartridge to make it talk you the car the only draw back of this is it is about £135 worth at the moment as they are on special and the car chips are £35 each.
Whilst oxygen is good for running more cars I would think at this moment in time it is more for a day event situation.

Putting it onto the track does not cost a lot as we have PCLapcounter already (well I do
) but the cost come in the controller cartridge and chips.

When Lee says precision he means anything but Ninco lol.

Does anyone have any thoughts on race formats

So far we run out and out endurance on the LeMans class
Lap limited heats in NASCAR Championship
And laps in SCX NASCARS,

Now as we don't have quiet enough time for 2 complet run thrus in each ID I was thinking of a 2 or 3 segment race
So we race our own cars but in only 2 or 3 id's for a time limited race getting a total of laps completed
Thus giving us more track time and the short sprint races that we have tried that just turn into a crash fest

Anyone any other thoughts

Also as previously mentioned I have several sets of UN CHIPPED cars that I am willing to race if we get some club chips and I do my incar Easy plug conversion
What do we think to that?

Michael.

Ninco Megan's
Ninco Mosler's
Ninco DTM's
Slot.it Group C

Scalextric 997's well 5 of these but these are DPR
Scalextric Porsche Boxsters

Are the ones I can think off of the top of my head lol

Well, if it helps, if we ran Ninco Moslers or Slot.it Group Cs then I could bring my own car along.

Got a few DTM cars at home, but they're all SCX.

Same with Porsche 911/997s. All either Ninco or SCX.

Hadn't realised the controller would be that pricey.
Still happy to get one, but might have to curb the car addiction for a couple of months!

I know whilst Oxigen is nice with the ability to run more cars, it is also very expensive.
For what the scalextric bits cost it does do a great job, yes it is limited to 6 cars but then again there are only 8 regulars at the moment so it works well.

I think we need to think very carefully about changes for next year as what we are doing this year is pretty good as it is.

Re the cars Steve what I was hiking with them is they would all be the same and then assigned lane colours for the night
So any differences would even out making it a level playing field again

I allready have a slot it controller that you can have alook at on thursday steve.
I will get oxygen up and running so everyone can see it in operation before we start investing.
The only track mods are a dongle on the computor £55 and inserting magnets in the track at the pit in and out and the start finish.
As michael says more for one off event as ssdc is more than adequate for what we need at the moment on club nights.
I would vote for the ninco dtm s.
I had one of these and they are ok.
Do you have a variety of these michael?

I see your point, Michael. We are, after all, talking about shelling out a fair bit of cash for the sake of having a load of pace cars going round! It would be good for one-off events where you might have a few extra racers, mind.

Agree about thinking carefully about changes - if it ain't broke - don't fix it! Nice to see what other options there are for different classes though and to see what everyone else thinks.

Thanks Lee - I'll have a look on Thursday. Why do you need magnets in the track to run Oxigen?

As that is the way it senses to cars the chip has a bit that sits on the side of the cars chassis

Look on pendals website it's the first chip in the Oxigen section

See black part on the leads

Anyone want to swap an iPad 3 for the Samsung note 10.1?

If you have the O2 cars set up in SSD mode (so that you don't have to replace lane change electronics, but add the magnets for lap counting, then you COULD use SSD cars for pace cars, and the oXigen cars for the racers. That would at least save money on that idea.
You'd need to wait for the b-chip, though, which will have built-in bridge rectifiers so that they can run on SSD powered track rather than straight DC powered track.
I'll be picking up an oXigen controller cart and a b-type chip when they are available, but I'm not expecting my club to want to change from SSD any time soon.
