Now I know that not everyone jumps at the chance to give away their set ups to others, but for those who are new to club racing, or even this type or rules, it might help to see what everyone is running.
I'm entering class 4 "Senior GT", here's a hint at what I'm going with.

Slot.It Audi R8
Ninco motor (not some rev happy rocketship)
Proslot rear tyres

That's about it really... can't fit roller bearings to an Audi and I'm not adding any weight as the big ol' Ninco motor should keep it down. I expect others will come up with more exotic concepts...

Hopefully, others will post tips or hints at their set ups.

Cheers all,

Cracking idea but they are a secretive bunch...oh well

My car = Slot It Audi. Box standard except front tyres are skinny and 5 Gram weight in nose. Pro Slot rears.

i like your idea of the ninco motor as it will help keep the car weighed down so I`ll give that a go, cheers for the tip

I don't have many modern GT cars as I'm mainly into historics. I was messing about with the TVR, Mercedes & Porsche that came from Racer magazine, glueing, trueing etc. and timing them round my 55', 4 lane routed track. I then picked up an old Ninco McLaren with an NC1 and it's so easy to drive, it was consistently 1/2 a second a lap faster.

My dilemma now is whether to add a faster motor for thosa long Phoenix straights, perhaps a V12, and risk losing that balance

My choices:
Proslot toyota gt1 - chassis straighened - slot it gearing (probably go for a 2.8 or 3 to 1 ratio) and evo 3 motor that is well run in - glue everything incl proslot (grooved) tyres to rear and true them. Up front reomve sideways slops and pink kar racing tyres and get tyres so they are just off the track but have some upwards movement available. Remove slop from guide and solder cables in to eyelets and braids. Use VMG no thread at top screws and expand body holes a fraction to ensure free movement. Use softer braid (e.g catrix or thinned ninco racing). Play with a bit of weight probably up front. I use this in our club racing although with sponge tyres.

Fly Porsche Evo2rs - very similar to above although don't think the stock motor has enough oomph - would probably go with a 2.4 or 2.6 ratio.

I've got another choice but it depends if I've enough prep time.

Good stuff Matt.

John if it helps at all...the racer Porsche is fine. Fit a better magnet and get the tyres down at the rear by a third, Fit a Slot It motor for a bit more straight line and you`ll do fine, several use that car here and it is good enough as a magnet car.

Thanks Jonny but I don't do magnets (implements of the devil
). I think I'll stick with the Mclaren because it's so easy to drive. I'm not a great driver so that counts for a lot. I suppose it might feel different on a plastic track though.

All I've done to it is remove the magnet, added a bit of lead and glued the wheel bearings. I'll glue in the motor when I've decided whether to replace it.

John

I'm only going to use a Ninco Gallaway, and I haven't raced for at least XXXXX years!.

As far as I'm concerned the racing is the least important part of the day.

Look forward to seeing you there.

Hi Alan,

I'll see you at the back of the grid then

Until the recent Pontefract TSRF race meeting, i hadn't done any club racing for years.

It's ironic, i've got a 4 lane, 55' track and don't know any other racers living near me

I will be trying out an Evo 2 Saleen with Boxer 2 Motor Slot.it rear axle and large wheels, start off with 3:1 gearing and P2 tyres and see how it goes. Will also bring Pro-slot Toyota, Slot.it Audi and Porsche and a few Evo Porsches some with Boxers. Will probably confuse myself completely. Will arrive Saturday to try find set-up.

Slot.It Stuff makes it easy to cahnge the width of your axel at any time, so no excuses!
65mm is fine for me, because it's useless trying to go any wider with an Audi, you just end up rubbing the arches... or is it 'cos mine's so low... lol
Damn, I was hoping I'd be the only one crazy enough to try a Ninco motor, you'd better not beat me with one Jon!
Don't worry if you don't know what's best to run, 250 will have at least one or two of EVERY combination, he'll try them all out... lol
Hey BEEJAY, if you want to give that Callaway a bit of an upgrade, I'm making a run of Carbon Fibre chassis for them, that will be around £10. They will accept a Slot.It motor mount so fully customizable. If you're interested email me [email protected] Unfortunatly not legal for the Pheonix day...

Hello boys,

Im seriously considering coming to the Pheonix do, but im unsure whether the car I want to bring is eligable or not. Its a Fly Panoz LMP-1. It has no lights - and im sure i read somewhere that the cars have to have them.

Also if it is allowed - has anyone got any tuning tips for the Pheonix track?

oh yes it's eligible no worries in that catagory, but I cant help with set up apart from true the tyres and glue and oil the bearings. run the body a little loose and it should be fine.

Jonnys will be able to help you more with set up

Rob.
