That`s not a bad choice of magnet car. Gotta run it loose and fit skinny tyres/grind down fronts and maybe think of a softer tyre for the rear. If you want to go quicker then think about fitting a faster motor but that`s about all really. You are better off using a 25 ohm controller. If you don`t have one then there will be some available for all to use.

It's a good option but......
Try Whith the new NC6 from ninco whith a 9/24 ratio, that motor is even beter than the NC5, the tires are fine, but the Slot-it P1 ant P2 or S1 ( 20/11 mm) are the must for a Carrera or a Scalex Sport truck, i prefer the P1.
try a litle plumb in the front, 3 or 4 gr most. Your Slot-it whould become a champ.

Well I'm going to buck the trend - box standard cars for me! Realistically I'm only going for a day out, put names to faces and anyway our clubs modified class is beyond what is allowed for this day so I don't want to rebuild one just for this day. I did pick up a Scalextric Vette cheap in the week so maybe I'll just potter around in that.

I'll probably decide on a car at practise on Saturday night, be happy with the choice until about thirty seconds before the off then change it for an untested one. Like usual. Am I the only one how can't help himself doing this?

Hi all ,
Newbie here,

I've just read the entire thread on the Open day and myself and a few mates who goto my club are dead keen on visiting.

However I've got a couple questions as to what cars we can and can't race in the classes.Primarily we just wanna go for a really cool day out and have some fun but being a little competitive doesnt hurt.

The rules are a little unclear regarding a few things.
My friends were looking to enter the Non magnet cars.Currently there favourites are the GB Track/FLY Chevrons with abit of weight and better tyres.
Is it ok to race any of the 60's/70's style GT cars like the Chevrons,Porsche 908's etc.
Are more powerful motors allowed in the non-mag class?would anyone reccommend it with respect to having alot less traction as i cant say i've tried it.

I was looking to race a Modified FLY Venturi 600 in the GT magnet class.I assume this would be ok,
but.....
It says in Jonny's rules "Magnet cars may have one magnet only that must be mounted within the car and for the two magnet classes the motor max revs limit is 30,000 revs"
So does class 3 allow 2 magnets? I was going to just have the standard FLY button magnet but if eligible I may add another one.

Alternatively I thought of putting all the Venturi running gear into my Scaley GT40,but I feel it is never as stable and deslots a fair bit.Do the GT40's go well with a slot it 29k rpm motor?

Any help and answers would be most appreciated.

Thanks

HI Bob, you and the lads will be very welcome.

In both magnet classes only one mag is allowed. The reason for stating it should be fitted inside is because one local club to us fit their mags on the underside of the chassis and we reckon that`s nuts,

Of the cars you mentioned, the Scalex GT 40 is by far the better choice, Get your rear tyres down a third and you have a great chance.

There is no upper limit for motors in the non mag class. BUT be warned, our circuit does not favour high power. You need good grip and good braking ability, too high powered a motor and you will struggle. I`ve posted that the leading Phoenix club racers use box standard Pro Sliot toyota GT 1 and Slot It audi. These are run loose with soft tyres at the rear and skinies at the front,

Hope this helps and we look forward to seeing you guys

Ahhhhh so thats allowed then?
I'd already cut the chassis and glued the magnet in so it sits flush with the underpan of the car but was not sure if this was also allowed. I have a spare GT40 chassis as well where it has not been altered cos some people get an arse on if they race my GT40 with the mag lowered and there ones are standard. Was gonna use that but guess I wont have to now.

Does anyone have recommendations for a choice of guide blade? My GT40 has the shorter guide blade which at our club sometimes doesn't register on the RMS lapcounter and my Sport Lapcounter. I've had occasions where i've clearly won a race only to be told I finished last and was 3 laps down on the 3rd place guy. Do the same problems apply with the Phoenix lapcounting mechanism?

Thanks for the replies, anymore tips would be most appreciated.

Look forward to meeting you all soon.

The type of guide fitted makes no odds to the lap counting at Phoenix. To run better you may want to remove the spring from the self centring gadgey to get thru the `Bus Stop` easier.

Magnet set up like that is ok folks, it`s legal. Just be careful that the magnet doesn`t get pulled right thru onto the rails during a race!! there is no need to do this , you achieve a better result (and safer) by grinding about a third off the rear tyres.

Int you might want to edit your posted advice about opening up ladies with a bad reputation!!!!

That has got to be one of the best mis-types on SF!! Inte, you have excelled yourself this time

Regarding setup, (Hopefully) I'll just bring my cars along and see what's legal in whichever class. If nowt's legal then I should be able to adapt a car. Failing that then use a Phoenix "courtesy car". Failing that, then have a grand day out meeting like minded nutters, slot jockeys and drivers of 1:1 race cars.
