I disagree. Too frequently these days i see people trying to minimise GV. Often its that a** Nye trotting out how he remembers some journalist no longer with us to disagree to claim they'd said GV wasn't all that after all.
Gilles did things that WERE extraordinary, its just such a tragedy that we didn't have him long enough to see what he could do with experience. In many ways what Senna might have been if he'd had ethics.
Edit: Actually i repent of saying this.
This is a place where we should be enjoying the cars and our heroes, and it's not my place to diminish anyone else's.
No ofense taken, who was greater Hannibal or Scipio, Aquiles or Hector… all of them were great heroes and so our racing legends, we may feel more sympathy for one or the other due to be countrymen, religious or political thinking, etc, but in the end they all did great deeds on the track, no point on arguing “what would have been if he had not died, if he have had a better car, if he would have had a better teamate, if , if, if, etc”. It didn’t happened, period! , so let’s enjoy the moments of speed and pure driving passion they left to us and that continue to inspire us…Well, so I say 😉
Cheers
