A couple of the mods have suggested adding a sub forum for hand controllers. Would this be of use to any of you? Comments and votes welcome.

A good idea..........it would be good to find the controller stuff all in one place.

Not everybody will post in the right place, shifting them across is another job for the admin/ moderators.

What about existing controller threads? Moving at least the best of the existing controller threads across would be niece, but that sounds like quite a bit of work.
As a complete dummy on such matters (amongst others) it seems a good idea. All in one place is an obvious benefit.

People are always posting stuff in the wrong sub forum - it is only a 5 second job to move them if/when the mods spot it.

Existing controller threads are also easily moved, providing I can find them in the first place.
I think it's a good idea, but would need existing content migrated in order not to be a ghost town.

It might be worth expanding the scope a little to perhaps include other related aspects of power and control? Track supplies, wiring, wireless..

Maybe not so far as to include lap counting as its a bit of a departure, but it could be considered a "technology" aspect of tracks rather than a design, build or scenic aspect.

Just suggestions.

Interesting point Gary

Agreed including lap counting isn't a good idea. SF already has an Analogue Race Control, Lap Timing Systems & Software forum. Race control systems most often include switching the power on/off as well as counting/timing laps.

Always difficult to know where best to split things. Power supplies and track wiring certainly belong together, not least because there's a good few threads asking about upgrading their power supply when their real problem is inadequate track wiring or bad joints between track sections. Is a separate power supplies and track wiring forum rather than combining it with controllers a good idea?
Yes, good idea. Controllers/Regulators (Analogue and Digital ?) are a key aspect of the hobby and a reasonably self-standing aspect.

The existing Forum "Analogue Race Control, Lap Timing Systems & Software" does imply covering associated items but people should be able to differentiate easily. I don't think anyone looking for controller info would expect to find it in the existing forum.

2 peeps have voted "No" but not given any reasons??

Leo
I think keeping it simple to just controllers is the best way to go.
It is a complex area which needs a good home base for old, new, future, and repairs or mods for improving control of the cars.

Not a huge amount of interest then - 237 views and just a handful of comments/votes. Unless there is a sudden upsurge in activity I am inclined to leave it on the back-burner as the returns wouldn't justify the work involved in setting it up.
I took it for a given that this would be set up as an obvious sub-forum, so didn't comment, not wising to clutter the pages with "me too" posts.

I support it.

Keith
It seems only natural that there would be a sub-forum for the topic. Otherwise, it's a long slog through searching to find info. Sorry that it's a pain to set up, but isn't it a pain to search for info through multiple threads as well? (Or is that what the mods have to do to set it up?)

I'm for it. Like Keith above, I thought it was self-evident that a sub-forum was warranted.
It is not a pain to set up but it takes time and I have to be sure that something is worthwhile before doing it. Yes, I would have to trawl through multiple threads to transfer existing ones to it.

Never assume that things are self evident - I asked for opinions and/or votes to judge the demand. If few people respond then I assume the interest is not there.
Sometimes, a benevolent dictatorship is the best. Democracy often lets the least good options in. If you ask what people want, you tend to get a committee like response and end up taking no action at all

As the mod who suggested this sub forum I am pleased to see so many positive thoughts expressed.

I thought it was a gap in our array of places to ask and post about that vital part of our hobby....the hand controller.

Where does one actually put them now? I had a question to ask users a month or two back but the correct place was undefined.

So please vote away chaps.

Regards

John

ps why two members voted no baffles me.

Still think it a benefit to the forum , seeing as the controllers are as vital as the cars, and the tracks.
So many new things coming our way about controllers and who has used which for what application.
I think the value as a resource is plenty and wont do any harm .

A poll, perhaps? Some folks are always drawn to polls....
Maybe, further to my previous comment, the way to proceed is to tell us that the mods have agreed to create a sub forum and ask if there are any objections.

Then do it anyway

Now got 4 "No" votes but no comments about the thinking. Is it just a wish to avoid an ever increasing number of topics?

This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
