Supposedly this is a Chaparral 2 they were butchering when figuring out what eventually would become the chaparral 2D.

Doc?

No prob’s - Jim Hall came upon a near stopped Lothar Motschenbacher in his McLaren M6B and was launched into the air - he broke his jaw and both legs in the crash and was mercifully pulled clear before it caught fire.

By the way, it was in November not February of that year - sorry.

If I recall correctly, Jim Hall's first words to rescue marshalls were: "Chrissake get me out of this effing contraption."

That would be the understandable reason why the 2G is the only model that does not exist today.

The bottom photo shows the Daytona configuration. I always thought the 2D was one of the prettier cars with the wasp waist. Hall said later that squaring off the tub for the 2F simply made the car heavier than it needed to be and one reason for it's lack of success.

Wrecked, Mr Hall was injured pretty bad and if I remember right he quit driving after that. I think Mr Hall had one or both legs broke.
He did drive some Trans-Am races in a Chevy Camaro afterward. But he said his inability to drive the extensive laps needed to sort out the 2H was a major factor in its lack of success. Surtees just couldn’t figure out how to drive it.
Jim Hall got the Chevy Trans am deal when Roger Penske turned it down, to make a silk purse out of a Javelin.
There's a vid somewhere on YouTube of quick Vic winning a Trans am race in that Hall Camaro, Vic mastered the changeable weather conditions rather well that day, the likes of Donohue and Jones didn't.
Strombecker made the 2D body in white and dark red. Why red? Only Strombecker marketing knows.

I may have held this 2D under water a bit too long. It used to be white and very badly scratched up. At least the scratches are gone now.

Simple answer, the white one had blue windows and the red one had clear windows.
To get an accurate one you could be tempted to repaint a red one, but it will turn pink as the red leaches through the paint.
Only working solution is to buy 2 cars and swap windows.
Clever marketing I would say.

I still have 3-white and one red 2D in inventory.

They might all get built in time. The red one is going to be bright red when I'm done.

It's back to green until then.
