Pre War: a discussion

Aided and abetted by Peter Seager-Thomas, I've opened this new thread for those who are still interested in pre War cars, about which I remain as passionate as ever.

Even if you have no interest in the early days of motor racing, we will read and absorb your contributions as usual with great interest.

Slot cars, builds, pics, yarns, people, photos and the rest... Let's try and preserve an important past for today and tomorrow, eh?

To get the ball rolling, a poorly lit pic of my much used and abused 12C Alfa.

In 1907 the world's first long-distance race was held between Paris and Peking - a distance of more than 9000 miles over difficult terrain. There were no rules, maps, roads or petrol stations.

Through places like the Gobi Desert, camels were used to transport fuel where competitors could fill up at various check-points - if they made it that far. Quite an adventure today, but it must have been a slightly better form of Hell all those years ago.

I like to think of this car as a mid 1920s' V12 Delage. I hacked the body from a bit of ol' firewood, and attached it to a Pitlane chassis. Posted it previously but it might give new members a few ideas, and leave older ones shaking their heads...

Another heap made from an alloy cigar tube and other junk, and also mounted on a Pitlane chassis. Both the above cars perform beautifully.

The 1914 twin-cam TT Humber, a most advanced car for its day. Kenneth Neve campaigned his lovely example in VSCC events for many years.

Yes, Daniel, it was from Ostorero. A truly wonderful model of a beautiful car. The 1:1 still exists, too.
