Hi,

Does anybody know if there are Pre War 1/32 Sunbeam race car models in existence, resin or perhaps plastic kit.
Although Sunbeam was a wel know English brand in pre War race cars at Le Mans an other Grand Prix's there is not much around in model land, it seems.
Even better should you have a not wanted model of such a car, you can always send me a PN

Cheers,
Danny

Hi Erik,
I totally agree with Kev, you made a nice model there.
Is the colour based on an historic model?
Anyway thanks for the tip.

Thanks for the kind comments Kev.

Danny,
I am not sure on the colour, I researched it at the time and I think it is correct?
I researched it at the time and came up with this:
Three Talbots were entered in the 1926 British Grand prix held at Brooklands
they were painted in the colour of British racing green rather than the usual
blue.
Information from 'British grand Prix' by Richard Hough

I hope that explains.

Kind regards
Eric

Hey Guys,

I built my 1911 ITALA from a Ferrero Roche chocolate box, in order to get the curve of the bonnet.

Just get a Model Cars Prototype Parade drawing, then scribe it on the FR plastic lid, then cut it out and join together.

Conceal the join with a "supposed hinge" and "Voila".

Good enough to win Concourse D' Elegance at Wolves in 2008 !!.

Sometimes, it is looking and finding a source of "bits" that wins the day.

Hi,
@ Kris:
I totally agree with you, there's a lot of every day garbage that can be very useful for scratch building. I've been using tea bags to make radiators and exhaust insulation, plastic bottles to make windows etc.. Never throw away sprue leftovers from any kind of plastic kit, it can be useful for a lot of things. Another tip is, if you have a silkscreen printer shop in you neighborhood go and talk to the owner. A lot of these printers use plastic cart in all kind of thicknesses, and often they have to cut away edges that end up in the bin. The same goes for metals from engraving shops.
You just have to look at what you trow away and ask yourself can this be useful or not.

But I only want to find out if there where productions of resin Sunbeams, it makes starting building easier, and why make it your self difficult if there's already a half finished model on the market
. Most times I end up altering and perfecting these models anyway with scratch and the chassis I always make from scratch.

If there is of course a model that you really want, like your "Ital" then there is no other option than to start from zero. I'm doing this with a model wright now, but that's for an other topic later.

You made me really curious to see you Ital model is there a picture available or a link?

@Eric:
Thanks for the information I appreciate it very much. I don't now much about the brand Sunbeam or their models but you have to start somewhere

Danny

Hi Nuvolare,

don't know how to post a link, but if you go to "Forums", then "Events", then type in "search" for "1911 ITALA".

That will take you to "Wolves TRRC Pre War Classic Event 2008".

Click on page 12, Mac P posted a number of photos in post #169.

The Itala is 3rd piccie up from the bottom !!.

Also in there amongst some fine cars is my "Mercedes Runabout", 6th from bottom !!.

Hope you like it .

Hi Eric
I believe that as the STD combine was an anglo french organisation whenm the cars were run in france they were painted blue and when raced in britain they were painted green ,and it seems likely that the green was darker than the one you chose for your model ie BRG (not meant to be a criticism )
Thw cars were later sold to an italian team who raced them in dark red ,and had considerably more success than the works team
