Tonight saw the first of the three meetings for the new Goodwood Cup trophy. I was really looking forward to this event and it did not disappoint.

The cars were first registered by the drivers in to which class they would be competing in. Class A - NSR and scratch builds. Class B -Slot its, Scalex, Revell and the like.

The heats got off to a flying start with lap records from the previous heats falling time and time again. There were some great performances from several of our new members who had bought the cars and immediately found the benefit of buying the better quality Slot it cars. Mike setting the fastest pre finals time of 5.926 secs for the A class cars ( NSR Porsche 917)
and Alan setting the fastest time for Class B cars of 6.269 secs (Slot it Ferrari 312)

The Class placings were as follows :-

Class A.

Mike 25 pts
Jim 23 + 1pt = 24 ( fastest lap of 5.873 secs from his B final heat.)

Mark 21
Roger 20
Viv 19
John G 18
David 17

Class B.

Andy 25 pts
Alan 23 + 1 (fastest lap 6.269 secs)

James 21
Peter 20
John P 19
Alex 18
Chris 17
Grant 16
Ken 15
Alf 14
Bert 13
Roy 12

Great to welcome back John G to Presto and good to see John P supporting this new event (both from the NSR Club)
although members of Presto also.

The next round of the Goodwood Cup is 31st August which gives everyone time to tweak their cars a bit more.

Next week sees the return of Pro Sports, hope to see you all again. Have a great week. Mike

Morning chaps,

Cracking racing as per usual, and really nice to be back at Presto after 6 months or so!

The NSR GT40 got better and better over the night, and found at least half a second by the end of my Final. The C Final was a great scrap between James, Viv and myself, until halfway through the race, I made a mistake out of the sweeper, and a slow Marshall cost me a second more than usual. I really was pushing to catch Viv, and ended up just a few feet behind. 2 more laps and I would have got him.

Well done Mike, superb driving
Cheers
Jon

It was lovely to see all those GT40s and 917s lined up against Alfas and Ferraris. I like this class although I had a nightmare with my car which kept going wrong. The penalty I suppose of trying to race a sixties Ferrari!
