Problems installing firmware to C7042

Hi everybody,

I believe my last post was back in 2010, yes long time ago. But this doesn't mean that I haven't used my Digital Scalextric track. On the contrary I have spend many happy hours.

However now I have bumped into a new problem - and once again it's the C7042 causing the troubles. I'm trying to upgrade the firmware to ver. 1.09. I'm following the exact instructions from the ssdc.jackaments homepage. I have installed the firmware update tool, I'm using the cable from RikoRocket (purchased back in 2011 with USB connector) and I have download the Firmware SW.

When I start the update tool I only have one port to choose from - COM3. When I start the update - pushing the PGM button - the process starts. I follow the different processes in the Status window, but when the update gets to Device Programming it stops and nothing more happens. If I try to scroll up or down in the Status windows the update program freezes and doesn't respond no more.

Im using a new Windows 7 PC (64 bit) - in fact I have tried two different Windows PC's with the same result.

Is the anybody that can help me in this situation? Thanks - and have a nice Easter.

Kind regards

Anders

Hi

From memory the very early cables could not write the firmware ? Perhaps a pm to Rikorocket would confirm this.
Have you installed the drivers for the cable ?the drivers are named ftdi something......
Thanks to both of you.

Ade, I think you are right. I start to remember that the cable version I purchased only can be used for the SDDC software and NOT to update the firmware. So I need either to buy a new cable or to get an old PC with a serial port. Or is there other possibilities? Thanks.

Gysse, the cable and the USB connector works fine. It's listed in Windows Devices and I can see that all the initial processes work fine (opening the port, loading the Firmware etc.) Also SDDC works fine.

Hi
yes again from memory serial port works but it's been a long time.
I notice you are from Denmark. If you live in the Copenhagen area, i Will be happy to help you out with the firmware Update.
The very early cables that came with a serial to USB connector had a limitation, unplugging the adaptor part and using a serial port would allow upgrades.

I'll PM you
Hi can anyone help i keep on getting this every time i try to up date C7042 firmware You cannot start application C7042 Firmware Update from this location because it is already installed from a different location.
This sounds like a registry problem ....... try uninstalling it then doing a fresh install.
Hi there, I am having problems updating my APB, probably as I am completely new to windows PC.
When I click on the Hex file it does not select it to put it into the updating software..
any help would be great?
If you download RCS64, you can update your powerbase from within RCS, all files you need are already build in. Works also with the free trial version.
