Hi all,
I've posted a few times with problems with track, some cars working, some not, with help from here I have a track that works fine for most cars, so I assume the track is ok.

I bought 6 new cars off eBay, all look new, in their original cases, I think they are genuine.

2 of those are as in the title, different livery but same cars, neither of those work properly.

I can hold one at 45 degrees off the track and it revs up, put it down and it may go one length of track or half the circuit, then it just stops, nothing to do then but pick it up and try again with little success, well none, sometimes there is no life in the cars anywhere on the circuit at all.

The other one is pretty much the same except that had no life but a bit of tinkering last night with the braids and trying to ensure the metal clip on the internal braid bit is touching the braid, I bent it up slightly, slight bit of go, then dead again.

Not sure what to do, strange they are both the same car that don't work, how can I establish and correct what it is?

Also one is limited edition 447 of 2000 but not sure which one is what anymore, one is Sara in blue paint, other is carphone warehouse in mainly red paint, anyone know which is which?

Hi, sounds like you have a break in wire from shoes to the chip,

Sometimes the wire looks good BUT it normally breaks inside the insulation just above where it joins the shoe.

Multimeter would be usefull to check continuity from shoe to matching wire on chip

Have had a few go myself and display similar symptons

Another thing to check is if you have the ferrite man on the yellow & green wires at the front and hopefully another one or a capacitor on the motor.

for some reason these ferrari's seem to struggle more than other cars when it come's to rev F chips..

I have just aquired one for silly money so will be trying a rev G chip in it....

Thanks guys, I will check the chip type out and let you know, the other symptom one of them has is it may go ok for a few pieces of track, then suddenly the driver, the one inside it as it isn't any of us, floors it flying off the track into oblivion on the next bend, well not quite that dramatic but basically full throttle with the trigger not pressed.

Are you using SSDC software? There was this running away at full speed issue a few releases back but it has now been solved - if you are using SSDC then upgrade to the latest firmware to your powerbase and upgrade SSDC to the latest release.

Rev F chips are also problematic. If you bought these recently from a dealer then take them back because they sold you old stock. A few people on SlotForum have done this and received replacement chips so Scalextric acknowledge it's an issue.

If they came with the cars or you bought them a while ago then the only thing to do is look into the MIH chip upgrade - I haven't gone down this path but a lot of people have and are pleased with the result.

I run 8 transits based on the Scalextric F430 and three unconverted F430's. Two of my racing buddies also run F430's and we have never had a problem with any of them. But all our chips are Rev G and our SSDC software is fairly up to date.

You might also want to get hold of some Inox MX3. It is magic go juice for digital cars, it really does live up to its reputation. It won't help with your current issues but once sorted it will make your cars run so much sweeter.

flying off at full speed ferrarif430...that sounds familar.....

As in other posts it must be a REV F chip.......mine did the same and once I swapped over to the REV G problem was solved

Not sure If It has anything to do with the older chip. We wanted to have an scalextric F430 class and we bought 6 deliveries. At least 2 of them have the problems described in post #1. In the end I replaced wires from motor to guide and problem solved. I suspected the connection wire to metal plate of guide. Now they run fine, except they sometimes run away with older chips, but that is the chip , not the car.

They are the Rev F type, so that would be the problem from reading your helpful posts.

I have spent hours today cleaning the part of my track I had less power on and it's all good again, I did try one of these cars again and it did seem to work ok for most of the track but then drops off, other cars are fine, so maybe those cars need the cleanest track to run on, or it's just the chips.

Where do i find out about MIH chip upgrading?

the thread about mih chip upgrades is in the scalextric digital section. Sorry i cant do the link thing to it.

You do need to purchase a pic programmer to install the mih firmware..

There are a couple of members that are way out in front when it comes to working with the mih stuff,it may be worth yo dropping one of those a pm to see if they will do them for you..

Otherwise sell the rev F one's on flea bay and invest the return on some rev G's

It always helps if the braids are straight, and clean.

Make sure not 1 strand of the braid is sticking far outwards or inwards

Make sure braids are clean, if not as said above INOX works really well but also a quick dab of lighter fluid should do the job!

I had similar symptoms with some other cars and it turned out a good controller cleaning made the fix. Also I just noticed on one of my F430s that one of the exhausts was rammed up inside the car and would impede gear movement and stop the running. Good luck.
