Whilst surfing for unusual race cars I found this...the McCandless 500

I wonder if it had anything to do with Cromie McCandless, he was a Northern Irish Grand Prix motorcycle road racer. His best season was in 1951, when he finished in third place in the 125cc world championship behind Carlo Ubbiali and Gianni Leoni. McCandless won two Grand Prix races during his career.
I've seen him a few times in the TT parade lap they used to do every year bringing out the famous old race bikes of the past, ridden by some famous past racers.

The Swedish Bam-Bam was a modified Lotus 23 with a Volvo engine. Hmm...

Giuseppe Parla with his Fiat-based 850cc Moretti.

A one-off Ford-based Tavenor by Raymond Nash and Roger Stalwood. They drove it to the Nurburgring in 1968. Early in the race, the car broke and its owners returned to Britain - without their car. A sad tale of everyday racing enthusiasts.

The Piper went to Le Mans, 1969, but, fitted with a Lotus 'twink' it wasn't fast enough to qualify. With a more powerful engine, it might have got somewhere.

Dick Guldstrand at the wheel of the "Pam" Chevrolet........Riverside 1966,....the car did not make it through practice, and never raced again.

Interestingly, the "Pam" was produced as a clear plastic slot car body in 1/24 by Russkit and Select, and also in 1/32 (maker unknown)......I do have one of the 1/32 bodyshells.

Looking at those wheels on the #29 car it makes me think that somewhere behind somebody's shed there is a Sedan sitting up on blocks.

Zink were well known builders of Formula Vee single-seaters, but here's a rare example of one of their sports cars in 1969. It's a Beetle with a GRP body.
