Hi guys,

as all the pics of my initial Thread "Planning a digital Thread" (http://www.slotforum.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=64813&page=2) seem to have vanished in the photoshop Nirvana, I'll start a new thread, to keep the most important pics here and to show the progress of the track.

Let me start with three media of version 1 of the track:

The final plan of V1:

The same in 3D:

The track as it was in the end:

The curves to the right looked rather impressive - at least in my mind. But, in fact, they were rather boring to drive. Especially the big 180° curve top right.

So, there had to be some sort of change.

More to come.

As place is still limited, the only chance was to add some variations in the third dimension. I decided to change the top left curve, add to short straights and add a closing curve.

Plan of V2. Changes from V1 in red.

There was a heavy struggle, if this design could be acceptable, regarding visibility (3 layers), accessibility (top right corner is closing down) and landscaping.

3D-Design showed, that visibility should be acceptable:

Real landscaping will not be possible, here. May be I get the track to look "OK". However, the most important to me is the driving experience.

In the meantime, the extension has been setup:

We race foam tires, and it was always a nightmare, to get the grip on the track. So I decided, to replace the existing gloss paint by a matt varnish for nicer grip. As a consequence, all the black foam rubber had to be removed and all existing grip was lost - back to zero.

Also, there was need for a backdrop and some commercials on the track, so that's were I am now:

Hope you enjoy.

We race foam tires, so grip on the track is always sort of an issue. At least, as long there is not enough rubber on the track.

So one has to race several thousands of laps, to provide some good initial grip.

With Scorpius pace cars, this is really easy

Hi

Same scenario as you Diegu new track painted in gloss but using tyres that came with the cars, mostly Slot It.

First test day with 5 cars running I was applying 3 in 1 oil to the tyres and spreading it round evenly with fingers and wiping excess off on a towel, do a couple of laps and then tape the tyres, at race start the grip level was good

By the end of the day there was evidence of a nice racing line starting to appear on the track and grip was spot on

Great looking track

In fact, the grip pacers are smart cars. Works a treat

.

Regarding oil: thanks for the tipps. We are four racers with three different tracks and we decided not to use chemicals on our tracks, to keep the track conditions comparable, so I can't.
On the original paint, I used body lotion. This gave great grip, but you always had to apply body lotion to the tires before racing.

May be this would be better with the oil, but I am not sure, so I won't

Yes, this one modified section really changed the characteristics of the track. And it really added to it. The new section is rather challenging.

Rick, you're always welcome for racing and more

The track can be switched easily from Scorpius to analog and there are about 30 Scorpius-chipped cars of different classes - mostly three or four of a kind:

  • 1:32: Slot.it, NSRs, Sideways Gr. 5, Fly Trucks, Ninco WRC, Carrera F1s (which I got from a friend)
  • 1:24: Scaleauto, Carrera, AutoArt. The 1:24 are all equipped with metall chassis and are lots of fun to drive

...and there is a Ninco Scorpius safety car waiting

I didn't chip the Carrera F1s myself. I got them from AlfistiGTA who sold them. He did a good job, but they are no good on wood without magnets, as the guide is located even behind the front axle. I think, he used them on Ninco, which should be fine.
