Just released - pictures of the brand new forthcoming release of the Ferrari 250LM.
Racer have made a number of changes in this car to their normal production methods, and the first is that they will be using their own chassis and not a Slot.It chassis, although the technical parts are still made by Slot.It. This model also features wire rims (aluminium/hex screw fitting) and dedicated tyres. They have also changed the assembly method for this car, with the full interior and driver figure now completely attached directly to the body to allow an easier opening of the car, when necessary, exactly as it is for normal plastic slot cars.

First two liveries are RCR15 road car (red or yellow) and the RCR16 yellow No. 26 of Ecurie Francorchamps which finished 2nd in Le Mans 24 Hrs 1965, and the first deliveries of these should be with us in early September. These will be followed in November by the winning NART car of same year, No. 21 in red. These models will be limited in availability and very popular, so pre-order yours from your dealer now!

Sorry to drag this up again, but the Racer P4 is hugely oversized. Is the 250LM (also one of my favoutite cars) the RIGHT size?
I don't wish to inflict my petty obsessions on the rest of the crew, but if it's right I'll buy it to add to my collection. If it ain't, I won't. They just look daft to me.

@howmet - give me the dimensions of the car in 1/32nd scale and points of reference to measure and I will measure it for you, when it arrives that is!

Out of interest, the 330 P4 in 1/32nd scale should be 130mm long, 56mm wide and 31.25mm high. the model is 132mm long, 59mm wide and 31mm high. I would hardly call that hugely oversized!!

I must reinforce Aaron's point in that the P4 does not look oversized IMHO. I have a Picture pride Cabinet in my Bedroom (I sweet talked the wife round) with to-date 52 cars in it (70 cars max). About 80% of this is total is filled with Fly cars from the Team sets, driver series etc, and the remaining 20% is Racer Ferrari's. They do not look oversized in comparison.

Hi Aaron,

The '66 250LM was 162" long, 66" wide, W/B 96", Front track 54", rear track53.6" according to the '68 Model Cars magazine scrutineers dimensions booklet. I shouild imagine the '65 car was similar.

Mossman, the P4 was 164.8" long, 71.3" wide, f. track 58.6", r.track 57.1" so the Racer car is over scale but if you're happy with it, that's what counts.

It's interesting to see how state of the art sportscars were getting wider within a couple of years to reflect tyre development.

Thanks for the info vfr750, but I still don't think it is enough over scale to worry about unless I am making a blunder here - 164.8 inches converted to millimetres by multiplying by 25.4 equals 4185.92mm, which in 1/32nd scale is 130.81mm. the model is 132mm. The width using the same calculation is 1811.02mm which in 1/32nd scale is 56.6mm so the model is 2.5mm too wide.

When the 250LM comes in I will do the same exercise and compare!

As I said, this is a bit of a personal obsession. The Racer P4 looks out to me, and at the prices involved, it's enough to put me off. Same goes for the 250 LM. If it's on a similar scale, I'd rather scratchbuild it, but I know that's not everyone's cup of tea.
But why can't they make 'em right to begin with? An old, old question, I know.
But good luck to them for producing some good prototype choices.

. I've hunted down the airfix kit of this car - accidentally found out about the yellow one somewhere (probably here actually) & thought hey I can be the only kid in my block with one of these & the buggers are building it (probably) better than I can.

Still - mine will still be a one of a kind I guess..

the car is TINY; I haven't checked the scale, but it has about the same wheelbase as a scalex caterham 7

Mine took a lot of modification to make me happy with it, and its still not as good as the Racer!!

but it does look great on the track and drives very well

I've picked this thread up late on, but as I got involved in an earlier one on the Racer P4 I thought I'd stick my two penneth in!

Aaron, when I measured my Racer P4s the dims were:

overall length 136mm (bodywork excluding the exhausts which add a further 2-3 mm)
overall width 64mm
overall height 33mm
wheelbase 79mm

Which equates to 1/30.5 (ish) so we've obviously bought our rulers from different hardware stores! It is oversize, but crucially (for me) it is in proportion, or near as needs a micrometre to check..

Does it matter? You pays your money and you takes your choice. In my view there are very few makes that match the Racer cars for detail and quality and with respect Howmet if dimensional accuracy was an essential prerequisite before buying a slot car there would be very few to choose from as the great majority have a dimensional flaw of one sort or another!
