SIDEWAYS

Capri Zakspeed Wurth - Nurburgring 1981 - K.Ludwig (preproduction sample)

For the Capri, photographed below, Racer are not using the Slot.It motor mount as they have produced a new one themselves. This motor pod will be available out of the box as you see the sample with three screws but have the possibility to be fixed with 4 screws by using a front adapter included in car box. Also together with car customers will receive adapters for use of normal long can motors instead of Flat6. The main new feature is in the rear, axle support is removable and can be exchanged with offset -0,5 and -1,0 which are also included in car box.

Slot.It motor mounts are anyway fully compatible with the Racer chassis and can be used without problem.

Racer's aim is, by supplying all those parts and adapters, to supply a product with plenty of configuration possibilities (including offsets parts) allowing their customers to save on extra race tuning parts.

Nice new selection. I know it is off topic but why would they build the 512, or any other closed prototype as an open car? Wouldn't it be a lot slower?
Why o why do all these companies keep on copying/creating cars that have been done - more Capri's and Lancia's and in a time where there is little money around - surely the Capri/Lancia afficionado's have the Fly car already and those that missed them will not make up enough numbers to cover the tooling costs - surely???

What am I missing?
The Fly Beta Montecarlo looks lovely, but is an ill handling pig, hopefully the Racer car will handle better.

I doubt that Marco in Italy has a monthly production meeting with Rafael in Spain to discuss new cars

Perhaps thy should post up on SlotForum what they propose to make next year. Then they could share out the production and prevent duplicates.

They do make beautiful cars but their driver figures are awful, why?

I guess you can get away with it a closed top car but that 512 is really let down by the hideous, undersized blob they have in the driving seat. It would cost no more to produce a decent looking driver figure than the one they have now.

With a little love and changing here and there this car is a winner. With my Lancia Alitalia I won the first '6 Lane Fly Classic and Fly Group 5''. By changing the front tires (slot it zero grip, slot it guide and 2.5 gram in front (without magnet of course) it`s fun to drive.

I`m a big fan of these `80 race monsters and I hope that they will produce a Porsche 935 in the Jagermeister livery simply to buy the car at a reasonable price instead of these crazy prices that some people dare to ask.....

The younger generation is not all waiting on these old cars but I do hope that it will be a success

Oh, that 240Z should be a peach. But is it art? Well, yes son, it is.
I assume both the Capri And Beta are Sideways, therefore plastic bodies ?
If so, they will be definite purchases for me

The Datsun 240Z!!!! Possibly the best news of the fair.

Incredible that took this long for this car to come along. I would think this car is one of the few mine golds
out there. Having said that the Silverline price is a bit of a push for the rally crowd. Still I would be surprised if this car will not do very well in the market.
It would have been better if the Datsun came the Sideways line instead.
Apparently Racer is also going to be doing a Lola T70 MkIII! Also a Ferrari Tour de France, 250 SWB and 250 GTO 64' for the Silverline. It was listed on MRE's site and linked from Racer's Facebook page.

Regards!

I agree - it looks great (my second choice would be the Citroen Viva from Octane).
Hi guys
just a few replies to your questions,

Both Capri Zakspeed and Lancia will be produced under Sideways brand.

512S driver is still the "blobby" old one since this is still a preproduction sample.
We are going to have a new driver with a full helmet as used by Ickx and Andretti
during Sebring 12hrs 1970.
Hope driver will look a bit better

Been following the Capri details for a while. Looks very good.

Maybe some of us have not had the chance in the past to buy the Capri's as we have not had the slot bug that long. Also using slot it running gear from the get go is just excellant compared to other companies offerings.

Even many years later cars with loads of flared arches and wings will have appeal. I would expect that there target audience is shall we say older and hence they would remember the Group 5 cars.

I will most likely get the capri as soon as it is realised. and if it is as good as it looks then the Lancia later.

Taking the lancia if you assume that the price will be the same as the existing sideways range then they (Comparing the Ninco Lancia) are only £5 more than the Ninco classic range and way less than the lightning range.

Sweet !

Oh, and I like that Capri a lot, too. Good job.
I don't think the relative age of the group 5 cars is a great issue, i was born mid '78 and these things are about my favourite car, in particular the capri. Whilst the Fly group 5 Capri is a beautiful thing, it is a bucket of rubbish as a slot car (with the exception of the low detail racing versions), and it is clear that Marco's car is a very fast and stable thing. Don't like fast? demotor it, you can't exactly upmotor the fly one and get performance..
I'll be going on the list for a 512s also, stunning little wallet lightener, and I'm pleased to hear the driver will be improved.
Actually, there are several cars on my list this year with the Racer brand behind them, good stuff!
Finally a 240Z to go along w/ my 1:1 scale Z.

I can only imagine how much it would sell for considering Racer's prices. I guess I would buy one and keep it on the shelf for safe keeping.

That 512S will be mine... Oh yes, she will be mine...

And probably the Capri and Beta too. Badly done previous slot cars can always have new, better incarnations. Someone someday is going to do a decent version of the Bentley Speed 8 - and I doubt there would be many cries of "It's already been done before..."

On another point, that chassis/pod under the Lancia is looking more ScaleAuto-like rather than only Slot.it-compatible. Is there any news on that front?
Found the answer to my question elsewhere... The pod is Racer's own design, but the fixing holes are indeed compatible with both ScaleAuto and Slot.it pods.
