Here at the museum is an extremely rare HO Sanwa Corvette convertible from Japan made in 1964. This is the only one known to exist. I show it next to the HO Sanwa Plymouth Valiant and with its box which is the same as the HO Tokyo Plamo boxes. Tokyo Plamo bought Sanwa in 1965 and produced the Sanwa HO for that year only with some slight modifications. This the best finds this month for the museum here in Pasadena TX.

Nice ones Bernard. The Corvette almost looks like a prototype because of that rather sickly color - did it go into production?

The chassis looks like an old Atlas, have you compared them? Atlas sourced a lot of other stuff from Japan for their bigger scale cars, maybe these too.

Hi Don,no its nothing like the Atlas chassis. This car is not a prototype,it is a production car. In fact it may well be the rarest HO production car in the world.

It's much rarer than the Marusan Volvo 1800. It was probably produced by Sanwa in 1964 and by Tokyo Plamo for only in 1965. I have a HO Tokyo Plamo set with the 2 Valiants which on the instruction sheet shows a line drawing of the Corvette just under the Valiant. In 1966 Tokyo Plamo dropped the HO line.

Thanks Bernard, quite a story and it does seem to be one of the rarer production cars around.

Here's why I was thinking of the Atlas chassis... (photo from the Net). Not all that different, and I think the Marx and Lionel cars were along the same lines, unlike the Aurora and Tyco cars.

Don,here are the 2 chassis next to each other. The Atlas being the smaller. Also the Sanwa pin guide is not a separate piece but molded into the chassis.I made do a sort of review of Sanwa and Tokyo Plamo.
