Hi there,
Has anyone found a way of adding realistic engine sounds matched to the car, (I don't mean an actual GT40 for instance although that would be fantastic, but a car accelerating or braking/backing off).
At the present time as far as I'm concerned, we have access to some of the best detailed slot cars ever produced. The only dimension missing is sound.
Surely with today's technology there must be a viable way of doing this linked to the controllers and I'm sure there would be a ready market for such a system.
What do you think?

It has been done, backin the late 60's, early 70'2. By Carrera funnily enough. The cars fetch premium now.

I am sure most of you would be gobsmacked to find out exactly how many different varieties of car / plane (yep skyrails they did for awhile)/ crane etc, I was.

Perhaps Thomas can fill in some number details for us ? I know he has an incredible book on collecting Carrera stuff,

OK Swiss,
I give up.....didn't last the minute.....my wife did though, she didn't laugh at all. (I didn't realise quite how loud I had the speakers 'till she threatened to throw them out the window)
!
Where on earth did you find that?

Scalextric made a MegaSound controller that you can still pickup from some shops.

It had a speaker and battery compartment in the bottom of the handle, and two sound functions - a starter button that you push and it sounded like an engine cranking then firing, then a sound module sort of linked to the controller for engine speed, complete with shifting. Not too bad at all for the price and my kids loved it, but after a few minutes, you prayed for batteries just like those in Christmas toys, the ones that last 3 minutes.
One problem is the sound doesn't come from the car itself, so there's no depth perception or doppler shift as the car passes you. The model railway guys fit sound modules into the locos to solve this but then struggle with reproducing the bass notes from such small speakers. So emulating a rumbling V8 on trailling throttle will be a technical challenge.

It does the rounds of the slot forums every now and then.
I have no idea how long it is (never listened to the end and I have listened longer than a minute) OR for what reason other than 'criminal insanity' it was made but it IS funny (you reading this Mrs Koffeebreak ?
).

Those controllers sound like they deserve extinction, they even look like dinosaurs so my daughter says.
