Hi Guys,

I have an AFX turbo chassis that is cracked/broken from where the track pin sits through to the motor area.

Has anyone successfully repaired a Turbo chassis??

What glue would you suggest??

Other than the cracked chassis, the car is fine, so I would like to repair it if possible..

Cheers

I've usually binned my broken chassis which is perhaps a little wasteful of me.

MikeFi on here uses a plastic cement to bond bits of bodies together. This is the type of glue where it melts the surface on both sides of the joint to form a perfect repair. I'd recommend finding some of that stuff.

Cheers

It is not clear to me where the chassis is broken, between the guide pin and the motor if I understand it correctly. You are unlikely to have any luck using glue. Epoxy might work in some places. The chassis is either Nylon or Delrin. I have repaired a break in the center of the chassis by touching it with a hot soldering iron to melt the sections together. In the US Scale Auto has replacement chassis for 3USD. JAG Hobbies sells them for 3.50USD.

This would be the ideal solution.. I had a look on eBay and found very little.. Can you post some links..?

I'd say at a guess that it has had an impact to the guide pin some how, and the chassis has cracked / split from the guide pin socket, back to where the motor sits in the chassis.. Being in such a "high load" area of the chassis, I dont think that any repair will be all that successful..
Thanks for the links, but I think that (international) postage is going to make them very expensive..

Gareth, The bodies look to be made of styrene, so modelling glue would work fine on them, however the chassis are made from some type of nylon..

I'll give CA a go, and if it works then well and good, if not then I have a shelf queen until I can sort out another chassis..

It is possible to repair them although it doesn't look pretty and is a last resort.

Put the guidepin in with a smear of araldite to give you manouevering time then run superglue into the split and let it set up. Reinforce the split by 'stitching' across it using a metal staple or two. Drill the holes to take them with a pin vise and push them through from the underside. If necessary top off from the top with a thin smear of araldite or hot glue.

Similar repairs on a favourite SG+ chassis held up for a season or two's racing when nothing else was available.

Hi Top Down,

Thankyou for the generous offer of the chassis, but I cannot accept..

I have glued the chassis and I will see how it goes.. If it breaks again, I'll set it aside until I can find a new chassis for it..

On RichD's advice, I will contact Scale Auto and Jag hobbies, and see how much postage will cost on a new chassis.. I may get some other bits, like pickup shoes whilst I'm at it..

Cheers

No worries mate.

Send me your address....please!

There's a cold, lonely, naked chassis sat shivering in a dark jiffy bag here just waiting to fulfil its destiny in a warm, exciting, new home. In fact it's so lonesome I've had to put another one in there to keep it company

If you don't send me your address, I'll just have to send it to 'Backlash, c/o Father Christmas, Australia' and hope he knows where you are

No charge. No obligation - other than to use them! Got to keep them happy y'know.

I have not used them much.. I'm still waiting for some tyres to arrive, and to finish the outer border/fence on my layout.. I dont want them to end up on the floor.. lol.

I need to get a lap counter / timer I think..
