Hi couple of things I need to sort out

im in the process of converting a car to shaft driven 4wd via an scx rx-8 motor and a slot.it compatible motor pod

1.) axle diameter

I recently bought These

they seem to be very slightly too small to fit the scx axle through - are the slot.it axles a different diameter? The scx axle seems to be 2.40mm measured with a micrometer but the slot.it axles are 3/32 which seems to be 2.38mm. So they should be equivalent? However there is no way the scx axle is going through the bush…. Any advice?

2.) equivalent gear wheel for slot.it axle

if I do have to replace the axle to fit through the bush then I will need to get 2x equivalent gears to fit on the axle and Drive the wheels - can anyone advise what would be equivalent to an scx early 00s rally car 4wd gear?

thanks[/B]

It’s probably the knurling on the scx axel that’s causing you problems. But even so, with a fixed gear you’re never fitting that into a Slotit motor pod..

Just go for a total Slotit setup, you’ll need the Black 27 tooth gear, brass will be fine unless you want ultimate performance. You will probably be able to glue on some SCX wheels if you want to use them.

Thanks both

I had considered that the front axle would be difficult but I didn’t think fitting the fixed gear wheel into the pod would be a problem as I could slide the bearing onto the axle with the axle in place but I guess getting it in in the first place is the problem irrespective of the bearing.

Is the black 27 tooth equivalent gear to the standard scx?

SlotIt bearings need 3/32" axles, SCX axles are bigger than 3/32" as you've discovered.
Do I need to update my spreadsheet? I've got them as 2.38

But I haven't changed any. Just changed the RX8 for an Avant Slot Hunter 4x4

Thanks

now just to work out what length axle I need - asking scale auto stuff has generally been met with no reply so I am wondering if anyone knows what I would need?

The front and rear seem to have a different track which complicates things

apolofies for the late reply work and real rallying have kept me busy the last few weeks

Final axle length to a small degree will depend on what wheels you are using but as long as they are the same length as the existing ones you should be ok. just buy a pair to match the widest track and you can cut one down if you need it slightly shorter. If you're still not sure measure outside to outside of the tyres on the widest track and go for that and then cut down as required. Easy to shorten, impossible to lengthen.
