As Ralph and Sandy are not running their usual ‘American Trophy’ race meeting at Oaklands Park this year we have decided to put on an alternative event.

Entries are invited for our 1/32 scale Race Meeting celebrating American Race Cars and Events.

Rockingham ‘American Pie’ Race Meeting
Sunday 3rd July 2022

There will be three events, each having two or three classes.

Event 1 - Can-Am and USRRC cars
Class a – pre 1968 open sports cars built to CSCRA class Sp3 or Sp4 Standards
Class b – 1968-74 Can-Am cars built to CSCRA class Sp6 Standards
Note; only open top 2 seat sports cars will be eligible for this event

Event 2 – Indy Cars
Class a – Front Engine Roadsters built to CSCRA GP3 Standards
Class b – Rear Engine cars up to 1974 built to CSCRA GP5 or GP6 Standards
Class c – Pre 1975 Formula 1 cars that raced in the US Grand Prix
Note; Front Engine Roadsters may use maximum 9mm wide overall rear tyres

Event 3 – American Saloons
Class a – 1966-72 Trans-Am Cars built to CSCRA Trans-Am class a Standards
Class b – pre 1975 NASCARs built to CSCRA NASCAR class 1 or 2 Standrds
Note; only American cars will be eligible for this event and all cars in both classes may use maximum 10mm wide overall rear tyres.

Drivers may enter only 1 class in each event.
There will be a Concours competition for each event.

Race format will be segmented as in our Winter Classic meeting.
We will group the cars together in classes as best we can.
Concours entries must be used in the races.

Awards for;
Concours winner in each event.
Race winner in each class of each event.
Overall Champion of the Meeting

Entry fee will be £5 per event – pay on the day.

This will be a one day only meeting.
Practice 8.00am to 10.00am.
10.00am Concours judging
10.30am Racing

Rules on car eligibility.

All cars entered must comply with the relevant CSCRA car standards for the class unless an exception is listed below.

Ground Clearance and Tyre Dimensions will be checked at scrutineering.

Event 1 – Can-Am & USRRC Sports Cars
(USRRC = United States Road Racing Championship forerunner to the Can-Am)
Only open top 2 seat Sports Cars that raced in the Can-Am, the USRRC or one of the other major North American or Canadian events for these cars will be eligible.
Cars from the World Sports Car Championship that only raced at Watkins Glenn will not be eligible - so no Porsche 917s, Lola Coupes etc.

Event 2 – Indy Cars
We have included a class for F1 cars as is usual at Oaklands Park but would prefer to see only Indy Cars entered. (The first US F1 Grand Prix was in 1959).
With this in mind we will only allow Indy Cars to enter Concours for this event.
Front engine Indy Roadsters may be fitted with 9mm maximum width tyres but must comply in all other respects with CSCRA GP3 Standards.

Event 3 – American Saloon (or should that be Sedans?)
Trans-Am cars to CSCRA Trans-Am class a Standards only.
NASCARs from any year up to 1974 to CSCRA NASCAR class 1 or 2 Standards.
All NASCARs may be fitted with 10mm maximum width tyres but should comply with all other CSCRA Standards for their period.

Ready-to-Run Cars.
As always at CSCRA events RTR cars are welcome.
All RTR cars must comply with the CSCRA Standards for Ground Clearance and Tyre Dimensions - there will be no exceptions!

Notes on some specific RTR cars.

Slot.It
Chaparral 2E and McLaren M8D will both be eligible for their respective classes.

Thunderslot
Lola T70 and McLaren M6A will only be allowed in the 68-74 Can-Am class as they are too wide for the earlier class.
If you enter a Thunderslot car you must have 1.5mm ground clearance under the entire length of the car – no exceptions.

NSR
To the best of my knowledge there are no NSR cars that would be eligible for any class at this meeting.

Phil, entry noted.
Peter, sorry but it always does. Ralph always looks for a date as close as possible to the 4th July and we could not find another date in July when it would not clash with something else at Rockingham or the BSCRA track. Hopefully the Oaklands American Trophy meeting will return next year.

Count me in. Is the Thunderslot McLaren Elva body eligible for anything ?

Hi Jeff,
The Thunderslot McLaren Elva (McLaren M1A if you prefer) body would pass scrutineering for the pre 1968 Sports Car class and would therefore also be eligible for the later Can-Am class.
They have, logically I suppose, used the same basic chassis as the M6A and the Lola T70 so the wheelbase is too long.
It should be 72.2mm. The Thunderslot model measures 75.5mm but it should be possible to fit a nearer to scale chassis under it if you wish.
I will accept this car as a Ready-to-Run, using the original body, chassis, motor, motor pod and gears with wheels and tyres replaced to ensure it complies with CSCRA tyre size and ground clearance rules.

Hi mate entry for 2 possibly 3 classes ,also is the Porsche 908/3 not eligible as it raced in the 6 hours of Watkins glen and can am in 72 and even though you for sure wouldn’t want to sit in it it does show as having a second seat ,if not not a problem as I’m not short of a car cheers alan

Notes on NSR cars for the Can-Am class.

Porsche 908/3.

This is the only 908/3 that raced in the Can-Am.
Scale wheelbase for a 908/3 is 71.88mm.
NSR have made their model 76.0mm.
This is way too much overscale to be acceptable but if someone wants to put a scale chassis under the above body then that will be OK.
Otherwise no 908/3s will be accepted.

Porsche 917/10 turbo.

These are the only 917/10s that raced in the Can-Am that have so far been released, though others a promised for later in the year.
With the cost of this set I really didn't think anyone would want to race one.
The wheelbase of this car is closer to scale than the 908 but still outside CSCRA limits.
If anyone wants to put a scale chassis under one or paint a white kit in a genuine Can-Am livery the it will certainly be eligible.
I will also accept 917/10 as a Ready-to-Run as long as it retains all its original components, is fitted with wheels and tyres to the correct standards, has 1.5mm ground clearance under the entire length of the car and is in a genuine Can-Am livery.
