Thank you to everyone who came, hope you enjoyed the club and the racing.
Well done to Phil field and John Secchi whom placed top non Rockingham racers in GP and Saloon class respectively.
Also a big well done to Dave Farrow who drove really well taking full advantage of others mistakes to win both the GP and Saloon classes as well as concours for the GP car and therefore take overall race meet champion. Salon concours went to John Roche/Chris Adams with their Volvo Amazon.

I'd like to thank everybody who turned up for our first open meeting. There were some fantastic cars an great racing.
I had a problem with my controller which started cutting out intermittently and unfortunately I hadn't packed a spare. It's only a few months old. The same happened to nearly everyone else who was running a Truspeed. Other makes were fine. It's really strange as it ran fine all day Saturday and the 1st part of Sunday, I managed to get a coupe of decent runs in the GP class which allowed me to get into the C final, I'm not sure if I would have made the B without the problems. During the final it got worse so I retired, I didn't want to risk breaking cars needlessly.
During the break I took it apart and cleaned all the contacts but to no avail. I retired again from Saloons as I was a risk to other cars as well.
I'll contact Steve at Truspeed today to see what he suggests as to whether the problem is with the track which I think is unlikely.

Thanks for a great first 'Classic' event at your fantastic new home. The new facility is a credit to you and all your clubmembers who have done a tremendous amount of work to get the clubroom to such a high standard. It now stands comparison with the best clubs in the Country.
Really enjoyed the day, great racing against Phil,Eddie, John, and Mick L for the bragging rights of 'best visitor', just pipped my good friend Phil...driving my models!
Pleased to have got a place in the GP Concours, the BRM has now achieved success in both racing and concours.
Two small issues; why did the truspeeds play up on the day? I don't recall any problems at the 'old' club...very odd.
The track needs Matt to use a bit more 'elbow grease' with the rubbing down of the sand in the sandtex finnish...NSR tyre life will not be great until this is done!!
All in all, well done on a super new Club, I wish Rockingham SCC all the best for the future and can't wait till my next visit, Double Trouble next year.

Surface is still a bit sharp even after the front splitter took off the top layer - we can't afford the tyre wear so I am sure that it will be sanded down a tad more.
Truspeed - the problem those controllers had was disappointing as it really affected those runners enjoyment. I only had trouble on one lane with mine as the internal short circuit protector kicked in - however my issue, I am sure, was related to my tail swinging out and the braids shorting as it cleared after I shortened the braids.
However worth all those whom experienced issues to contact Steve and see if it is a underlying design issue which can be resolved, or is it a peculiarity with our track which we can't think of why.

Thanks to one and all at Rockingham for a great weekends racing. The usual friendly repartee and plenty of track time.
I agree with Bill about the "sandtex" finish especially as the track is a tricky blighter to get to grips with and the endless rolls scratching the paint on my new saloon bodies, although I did my best to smooth the track surface with the front splitter on my Camaro (ground clearance! wot rules?)
Congratulations to Dave, his GP win gifted thanks to Matt's victory roll off the sweeper a lap too early but his saloon win was well earned - his little Alfa looked a delight with good speed and solid handling whilst the US muscle cars knocked three bags of spit out of each other.
Can't wait for my next visit.

Here is the e-mail i've sent to Steve:

John have you got the built in plug in the controller box, i.e. there is no wire coming out of the box with a 3 pin plug on the end.
If so could the box be shorting out on anything on the socket, maybe a fixing screw etc.
Remember the problems in Roncole Verdi this year where the 'live' metal drivers staging was shorting out on mine, and some others, controllers?

Yippe…………… I don't think I could say anything else really. If you look over the results of this event you will see just how many times I came second to Mick K in the Gp class, so to finally win it is something special. I thought there would be a real chance for some of the visitors, as the track layout has changed and was new to all of us, also the surface so green the grip was changing all the time. Maybe the new tire prep I was using worked after all.

Just a quick word to thank everyone, especially Mick K who is the force behind this event. A big thanks to everyone that built the new clubroom. There are a few bits that will be changed and improved. It took a lot longer than it was thought and it was a real shame the Double Trouble was dropped but I am sure the next events will be better and stronger in the new premises.

Hi all.
I received the email about the short circuit protection feature on the TruSpeed PWM controllers coming into play at the event.
I agree that it seems unlikely that the track itself is a problem.
Since the controllers are all working OK again back at the home tracks, it seems that it's not the actual controllers either.
Long braids are certainly a probable culprit, but I didn't know at the time of my reply to the Email that the event was a brass chassis one.
These chassis are notorious for causing short circuits, so it's more likely to be frayed track braiding shorting against low-slung chassis that caused most of it.
Additionally the wires from the braids to the motors sometimes short against the chassis as the guide turns if the insulation is not right up to the connection point.
I could modify that protection circuit to allow shorting to occur, but I'm not sure that is a move forward.
If anyone would like to have the circuit muted then please send your controller in to me and I'll modify it.

I'm not sure if it's of any use, but a few of our guys use TruSpeed PWMs at Norwich, and if you are driving, when someone else plugs their PWM controller in on another lane, the power to yours is cut momentarily, and needs to be 'reset' by releasing the trigger, and then it's fine. It's something that happens to everyone who owns a PWM at ours,

Really nice to see scenery on the circuit, I personally think it adds realism to the track. Well done to Trickie Dickie (who ever he is,) the finishing touches are great.

At Presto the scenery is a bone of contention with some members but seeing how people have gone to a lot of trouble detailing their cars at this meeting it only adds to the realism of the meeting and the whole thing in general.
Well done to all the members who worked so hard to achieve a very high standard for this new clubroom and circuits, you've done it - It's fabulous!

Thanks for the compliments Yazoo, it is appreciated, but it was not just down to me. All the club members involved deserve a huge pat on the back for the way in which Rockingham has turned out. More scenic additions are ongoing so you will have to return to see further developements.
