Rockingham July 27-28: GT3 and WEC Digital Racing

For the 3rd time Rockingham (www.rockinghamslotcarclub.co.uk) will host a double header of DiSCA GT3 and WEC events on Rockbull Ring ninco track at the National Slot Car Centre on the weekend of 27th and 28th July 2019.

The club is located at:

Unit 1, Wansell Road, Corby NN17 5LX

https://www.bing.com/maps?q=rockingham+slot+car&src=IE-TopResult&FORM=IETR02&conversationid=

The event will feature a double feature with GT3 racing on the Saturday and the Rockbull Ring 6hrs WEC endurance on Sunday.

We welcome all comers to the event, whether you partake in either or both days. Rockingham can provide technical assistance and has several Slot.it controllers available, should new teams require them.

With free practice staring on Friday afternoon there will be plenty of time for teams to check out the track and set-up

Rockbull Ring 90 min GT3 Sprint Races, Saturday 27 July
As in 2018 the DiSCA GT3 cars with teams of either two or three drivers, will kick off the event on Saturday from 08:00 till 15:00hrs.

There will be one 60 min. Timed Practice session and two 90 min. races which include one mandatory pitstop of 1 minute duration.

Full Disca GT3 rules will apply for the Rockbull Ring GT3 race. No handout parts (although some will be available to purchase if required). You must ensure the 1.8mm motor ride height is achieved at tech inspection before both races.

Rockbull Ring 6hrs WEC, Sunday 28 July

With the Rockbull Ring 6rs run under the same DiSCA WEC Sports Cars rules as used for the Oxigen LM 24hrs, and with its long straights flowing techincal areas the track has significant similarities to the Henley track. As the track is only set-up for these events there is no real local track advantage making it a very open competition.

WEC 6hrs hand out materials
Teams will be hand out 1 motor at random (Flat-6 or MX-16) These motors have been tested, matched and run in by Slot.it. Should in the unlikely occasion a motor be defective, teams will receive a new one from the organisation.

Teams will be hand out 2 pairs of N18 and 1 pair of F22 at random. Both compounds must be used during the main race. Hand outs will be available on Saturday after registering at the race control.

During free practice teams are free to run their own motors and tyres (of the same type and or compound), we advise teams to mount their handouts before the end of free practice. This way you'll be able to hit the ground running on Sunday morning. If you use this option you will have to place the parts in the Parc Ferme overnight (along with the whole car, chassis, pod with motor rear axle and wheels)

Eastcote have made an entry for Sunday's WEC race now.

Still awaiting final confirmation from Demon and Red Dragons.

Will do a full update tomorrow as I have a day off to prep for a charity bike ride from Winchester to Northampton via the Cotswolds.

We are putting together a spotters guide for the event, for those whom have not specified their model and livery details please can you to ensure the guide looks as good as it can.

Anymore for dinner?

Matt
Updated entry details with change of identification numbers to ensure we have the correct sticker numbers/colours available. As a result I have changed the GT3 id numbers to coincide to ease teams programming hassles.

The hand controller firmware will be 3.04

The in-car firmware will be as follows:

• 2.13 for Type A or Type B

• 3.01 for Type B1

• 3.03 for Type B2 and Type C

If anyone needs something from my website - www.svworkz.be -, let me know and I'll bring it to Rockingham :)
I know Sean has requested on of your tyre jigs.

Re darkness. Nick, John and I agreed it would be good to run a propn of the 6hr in the dark. We will test the lighting situation and ensure the conditions are suitable and if so run the last 60-90mins in those conditions.

Anyone partaking in the Friday practice will have the opportunity to partake in our club racing if they wish. Chance to be immortalised in our mythical Hall of Fame if you take the win. We are racing Group 5 cars or for newcomers anything goes. So cars available or if you bring your own I have wheels/tyres to suit.

Much appreciated Gary, an excellent part of what makes the DiSCA events special.

Just to get you all in the mood (what mood will be very personal to you) - Nick Wade and I are setting up the track and room tomorrow in what is likely to be 35 degree heat. Mankinis will be needed.

Luckily Friday and the weekend will be cooler at mid 25's.

Matt
It seems most if not all enjoyed the event, which is what it is all about.

My thanks to Nick Wade and John Underwood whom between us organised and put on the whole shebang. Also Gary whom supplied some missing required track parts as well as put together the lovely spotters guide, and Tamar whom printed them. Also was fun getting to know Maurizio and his philosophy of stupid and how he dreams of roast suckling pigs when he sees his local wildlife. I think he found the event informative although a tad frustrating seeing the issues he was assured were resolved were not, although he committed to resolving them asap and definitely in time for the N Staffs Oct event

After our car went to the pits for the 2nd time the adrenaline from racing had seeped out of my body which left me jaded and feeling cream crackered by mid afternoon on Sunday. However our car would not of made it to the grid unless my team mate put together the bits I gave him on Sunday morning, so thank you Keith.

Both days of racing were good, some really close battles throughout. The fact that race two of the GT3 has 3 cars less than 1/2 lap between them (3rd-5th) at the end was testament to the closeness.

Finally thank you to all the racers whom gathered to race toy cars with us for the weekend - appreciated.

I have left the results and data on the club's laptop, and I have not got pics of the final (with missing laps added) results on my phone. If anyone has them please contact me and send me the pics.

Sean was presenting the trophies.

Will confirm final results on Saturday.

Matt
Maurizio was wearing some very nice fish net stockings to compensate for the lack of super models. Certainly caught Tom's eye judging from the photos or was that look a result of withdrawal symptoms from a lack of waffles and chocolate.

Verified results from the two rounds of GT3, saw a double win for Lowlands Racing of Steven and Tom, with very close battles for the other podium positions especially race two, where second and third were only decided in the last 5 seconds when I caught and overtook Jon White.
