Hi all.

Just a quick wake up to the running of the annual Roncole Verdi Vintage meeting in Italy 5th and 6th May 2018.

I have attended twice, thoroughly enjoyed myself with great company, nice old hotel, good track and friendly competition.

Phil Smith and Brad Blohm are regulars but it looks like Brad is a 'maybe' and Phil is a 'Definite no' for this year.

Eddie Grice and myself are going but the costs are less if we can split the hire car with more people.

Peter (Scudbong), Joel (Merkit the Groff), Mark (Mark50) are you up for it?

Anybody else?

I have Hotel details and costs, transport costs depend upon Airline/Airport/Car hire size...

Hi Alexis, Happy new year to you!

The regulations and information are there next to the poster in my post as a downloadable document.

let me know if it does not work for any reason. It would be good to see you, I did not know you were interested in pure vintage events.

I will PM the hotel details.
It's a pos. for me, given I'll be living in France more or less due West of Roncole and 'Big Birds' appear to be eligible for 1:24. No division into classes? Otherwise we could see an Alfa 158 line up alongside a Lotus 72!

They put similar yeared cars in the same races so this does not happen.

However there is as far as I can see only two classes, a 1/32 Monoposto and a 1/24 Monoposto so although you might be racing similar cars in your heat you still have to beat that Lotus 72 with your Alfa to get a podium...

I like a challenge though!

Interested Peter, but still checking out transport possibilities from France... do you come by Paris at all if driving?

No I fly/drive otherwise would be delighted to offer a lift.
But if we could co-ordinate our London-Milan, Paris-Milan flights.....?
Eddie
Good point Eddie, what do you think Don?

One thing, you have a few cars to choose from I should think Don!
Yes, that sounds like a possibility! (But I'd probably take a train - depending on whether my wife comes along...)

First, I'm trying to convince my old friend Yves, who now lives in Chambery, and visits Italy often, to drive there...

Don

PS: yes, true Peter, I do have a few open-wheel cars to choose from!
My only worry about partners coming is that - beyond a visit to Verdi's house and a half dozen shops the place is VERY small and very quiet.

And watching toy cars race as a spectator sport can wain pretty quickly.
True Peter, I think Phil mentioned that to me last time... Turin was great for partners - and us too! We did a four day weekend there one year...

Plenty for the ladies to spend your money on at Fidenza Shopping Village, only a short cab ride away from Roncole.

Or only a little further away is Salsomaggiore Terme, a spa town were they can enjoy the historic baths and spend even more of your money in the many designer stores!

Have fun chaps!

The highlight is the Oliver Twist pub! English style pub, with German/Belgian beer, with American pub food, made with proper Italian ingredients and beautiful surroundings. Oh, and slot cars! Why am I only a maybe?!?
It sounds like a nice meeting, I keep telling myself I should go, I have a nice Novi Ferguson that went really well in Bordeaux

Then I look at the rules and I am reminded how anti scratchbuilding they are.

(And the rule about "rarity" is pure checkbook racing/collecting.)

I will make it one year when the stars are perfectly aligned and use the rarest slotcar known to man

, but not this year.

Joel

PS: And what is it about "48 pitch gears only"? Most Japanese cars came with 50 pitch, can they really tell the difference???

The rules are not as strict as they sound Joel there is quite a bit of leeway and 95% of the entries do not fully comply with the rules!

You can lose a point or two for fitting cox gears in , say, a Revell car but then as I said not many cars entered are 100% original so everyone else is losing points for something as well.

I think the pitch thing is to stop the use of Taylormade gears but as you say who is going to count the pitch on a 50p gear!?

Me and Brad won outright last year and neither of our cars 1/32 and 1/24 were anywhere near original.

Wish I was going this year as open wheel cars are my favourite and it really is a good meeting, competition and social.
Also wondered regards the 48 pitch only gears as points are deducted for non originality and i don't think Taylor were fitted to any kits other than maybe Taylor's own 1/32 kit.

Only reason i use them is because i have some and possibly them being a bit more reliable!

WHAT DO YOU MEAN ANYWHERE NEAR ORIGINAL! I used a Cox crown on my Strombecker Porsche Carrera! I don't know what shenanigans you pulled...

Seriously Joel, it's a great time, and everyone does get dinged a bit. They want to reward originality and I'm all for it.

Think of it this way; slot cars 2nd, live/experience/enjoy 1st! If I were wealthy I'd be there again and again, but with Slotmania in March, Roncole early May, UK Slot Festival later May, Bordeaux mid-June, I can only travel so much. Perhaps I should just move over?!?

Not a bad idea Brad, then you can add the Marly swapmeet in March, Double Trouble in April...

Haven't been to Roncole, but greatly enjoyed the meeting when it was in Turin - just another aspect of vintage, "all original", or close to it...
