DHORC's 21st year of HO racing starts on Tuesday 10th January 2012 at the Rolls-Royce leisure association facility off Moor Lane, Derby. Our first Round of 26 will be on the 128' 9" four-lane Mugello Circuit, the 13th time we have run this track.

With nine Adult winners in 2011 and five Junior winners there are no favourites to take top honours at Mugello . Martin Allsopp will start his 129th consecutive meeting since he joined DHORC, Liam Smith will start his 105th consecutive meeting. Both are after Phil Rees' (who will also be there for his record 396th meeting) record of 180 consecutive meetings.

Again the meeting will be run from the standard Tomy Timers that have done a wonderful job over the last twenty years timing each lap to 0.01 of a second and providing us with a wonderful array of stats over that period.

The laps (including tenths taken from where the car finishes on the circuit at the end of each three minute race) and fastest lap for each competitor during Qualifying, for each of the four races they run, is fed into a specially developed Excel spreadsheet below, which covers both Adult and Junior classes. This works for us at the moment but we are continuously looking at alternative ways of running the meetings.

This spreadsheet automatically updates a separate spreadsheet, shown on an independent screen (below) so all know exactly where they are and what they need to reach a certain grid slot after each and every race. They also know exactly when they are going to race and with whom.

This second spreadsheet also has the following attributes:-
It shows who set the most laps and fastest lap on each lane indicated by a coloured marker to the left of the relevant scores
It shows who set the most laps and fastest laps for each car type indicated by the score going purple
It shows whether a track record has been broken indicated by the record box at the top of a lane (or top of the Qualifying column) going purple
It shows if two competitors have qualified on the same score indicated by the position cells going purple. The tiebreaker being the driver with the most race laps in Qualifying with the car that is being used in the Finals

Following our AGM in November we will be running a new points system for the first time in more than 15 years. This new, simplified system, has allowed us to be able to automatically upload the Qualifying spreadsheet into a simple Finals spreadsheet, hopefully doing away with paper altogether on race night.

Phil Rees manning Parc Ferme, where all of the cars are brought prior to the Finals, asks each driver in each Final which lane they would like (top qualifier in each Final getting first choice) updating the spreadsheet as he goes.

All Race Control then need to do is press the "Set Lanes" button and the Finals are ready to run.

After each Final is run and updated into the spreadsheet Race Control presses the "Final Positions" button which automatically puts the winner into the next Final on the correct lane. After doing this at the end of the 'A' Final it provides everyone's points for the night. Well that's the theory! It has worked through many test runs let's see what happens on Tuesday, the proof will indeed be in the pudding!

The 403rd issue of the DHORC Magazine will follow the meeting

I am suitably impressed with all those stats.

But with PC timing software you could have a real-time leaderboard which updates every time a car crosses the line during races, and wthout race control having to lift a finger.

Thanks Lee, lets hope the spreadsheet works on Tuesday night, it should unless there is something we have missed in the set up!

It is a nice track, although that chicane in the centre loop tends to catch folk out, as does the quick left hander onto the bottom straight. You can see a video of the track (not as good as the ones done by Andy!) on the Calendar section of our web site

Results will be posted here Tuesday night

Cheers
