do the rules need to be changed

in open gt it states non magnet

so to have a motor with a mag effect that creats a magnectic force is an advantage over others who dont have this motor

so rules need to be changed so all know or if it is a non magnet then if motor is a mag one then it is still creating field

CLARIFICATION CLARIFICATION PLEASE RULE UPDATED TO ALLOW MAG MOTORS ????????????????????

I hope it's acceptable for an outsider to make a comment

All slot car motors need magnetic field(s) to work.
Some motors are deliberately designed to produce a large amount of magnet traction, some motors produce very little magnet traction and some are in between. The problem with a "no magnetic field from the motor rule" is where do you draw the line.

Some clubs use a magnet marshal with a defined limit the magnetic attraction: some have a list of acceptable motors; probably there are some other answers out there.

Best of luck with your racing

It's widely accepted that non magnet refers to the removal of the chassis magnet.
The rules do state 'any tuning parts from any manufacturer may be used to enhance performance' so I think that's covered it.

NSR (and I assume others do) now supply magnetic effect motors in some cars as standard, Therefore I don't think it would be sensible to rule against a standard car running in an open GT class!

Dave, pretty sure that NSR Porsche I gave you has a mag effect motor. All motors are going to produce some magnetic flux, and sometimes that is ony apparent when the motor is running. Really difficult to police that.

I'm sure Colin would be happy to swap the mag effect motor with the original to make you legal.

Mag effect motors are nothing new and are perfectly legal (in certain classes) as I'm sure they are in most other social slot clubs around the country.

The motor is the standard one that comes with the car, but even those not marked "mag effect" will have some effect, its impossible to keep all the flux in.

I'm in touch with some friends who race 1/32nd stateside to a pretty serious level, and they have said that even in the more open classes they have had to make big changes in the way they do things as the deliberately leaky motor field motors become more prevalent.

Most of the tracks are routed now and non-magnetic, and at the ones that are not they use the MM. This was a fair bit of upheaval and cost, and in the debate they lost some people, but the consensus was if they did nothing they would of lost more.
