Hi,here's a rare Russian 1/43rd scale slot car set made in June 1992 by the company Complex. The track is very much Hong Kong style. The Motor etc are very much Russian. Not sure which model cars these are.The decals are paper which must be cut out and then glued . Its battery operated with regular type controllers. The set sold for 38 rubles. It is the 1st post Soviet set I have found. My earliest Soviet made slot car from around 1954. This is the latest one made 1 year after the counter revolution.

The most interesting aspect of this set is that the cars seem to have their motors in sidewinder configuration. Which when you consider that this is very much a 'bottom of the line' set is quite remarkable :D

The cars are very much a reflection of "social-realist" design, despite the fact that it's post-Soviet.

Great find Bernard.

With IMMENSE imagination, one could somehow decide that the cars are Lamborghini Miura SV...

LOTS of imagination.

I think the human angle on this set is the most interesting thing.
Imagine the (presumably 'rich') child who received this gift in a world that was opening up / falling apart (delete as appropriate)!
He would have loved it in a way that is difficult to imagine despite the obviously ridiculous cars made on some soviet production line.
How quickly did it become obsolete? Aesthetically....

Nice piece, thanks for posting

I know a ton of people who grew up in East Germany and struggle heavily with kids basically getting everything they want. The surplus on things out there is suffocating IMHO.

So as Andi said, getting anything like that back in the day made you THE man (or boy, or girl or woman). East Germany made a "PreoFo" (press form) track and cars. The motors feel like they might have 6k rpm at most but some had steering front ends and the detail was not any worse than some of the stuff Hornby put out in the 80's and 90's.

I just think today most kids don't pick something up and think "man I had to wait so long for this" or "I had to work so hard for this" or even "I am so glad my parents got me this"... it's almost like "Oh gee thanks I wanted that, next!"
